    Some interesting stats from ABS
Population growth/immigration can help drive property prices up... ie immigration in Syds West drove this market and in turn was the first to boom.

    Population clock

On 23 January 2017 at 12:38:54 PM (Canberra time), the resident population of Australia is projected to be:

    24,338,531
This projection is based on the estimated resident population at 30 June 2016 and assumes growth since then of:
    • one birth every 1 minute and 40 seconds,
    • one death every 3 minutes and 17 seconds,
    • a net gain of one international migration every 2 minutes and 25 seconds, leading to
    • an overall total population increase of one person every 1 minute and 24 seconds.

These assumptions are consistent with figures released in Australian Demographic Statistics, June Quarter 2016 (cat. no. 3101.0).

Be very interested to know more about population stats per each State? Anyone got this?

I noticed the FY1415 figures NSW interstate migration was minus 6639.

I'd be interested to see more updated figures.

Just personally I know 10+ people that have moved to QLD in the past 5 years or they are thinking about it. They are not retirement age, but couples or families. All original Sydneysiders with no ties to anyone in QLD.

I don't think so - not today at least.

NSW (Sydney) just isn't affordable for so many young families that aren't getting family support.

QLD has draw cards for young and old.

Every single one that I've heard was affordability.

The median house price over $1M going to be difficult to get into this market, unless they commute and buy further out I guess??

    Thanks HUGH72.

According to some demographers WA will overtake QLD as the 3rd biggest state in the decades to come. Looking at the population in the past year QLD still grew at double the population rate of WA, but that could be due to the WA economy being in the doldrums.

    Affordability. Slower pace of life.

Everyone is from Sydney's inner suburbs. Moved to Brisbane or GC.

I would assume most were on six figure packages in Sydney, or close to it.

Fields of work- HR, IT, electrician. Paralegal. But predominantly sales.

People thinking of going- IT, medical, sales

Ditto, I've had friends, colleagues and clients move from Sydney to Australia - all to improve their quality of life.

The cost of living, amenity and size is desirable to many. Unemployment is marginally higher than other States, but those with skills and a willingness to work aren't unemployed.

Its also important to look at immigration, this is one of the reasons Melb is currently booming, number 1, it causes spikes, same as I mentioned with Syd market (western suburbs), immigration

Just about any State in Australia is more affordable than Sydney, the issue is not just affordability but jobs. No point moving to Perth, there are no jobs.
