You could always self manage if you don't appreciate all that an agency does for you

This is true. The difference between banks and PMs is people can't manage their money without banks while they can manage their IPs without PMs.

You just revealed my secret to the whole community :(
Now I have to find another place to stick my money. Probably under sofa or inside my PC.

People self manage not necessarily because they don't appreciate what an agency does.
    People self manage could be
    1. they have to, because they cannot afford PM
    2. they enjoy doing it
    3. they have not met PM-of-the-century

All of them if I can get a discount. It saves me having to think about them.

For my Perth properties I use Rob from Paddington Realty. He has a small independent agency, is quite proactive and good value price wise. Please tell him Dave sent you.
