I agree with Westminster - not having pokies in the pubs is great. Yes we do have Lotterywest selling lotto tix, but you don't see people queuing up all day at the newsagents repeatedly buying tickets, like you see people at pubs interstate sitting in front of the one-armed bandits. We do have the casino but it actually makes it relatively inconvenient for most people having to go all the way to Burswood to gamble like that.
Perth is very slowly starting to develop a bit of a foodie mentality regarding food and coffee as well - something I think is fantastic! And despite economic changes from the mining boom ending, people still seem to be able to afford a meal and a night out.
I'm also loving the events that are starting to occur - things like the Perth Fringe Festival are just fantastic events that are well supported by the community.

People from regional areas go to Perth for weekends away to go the casino, regularly.

And there's usually people waiting at the pubs in the morning to put their bets on

Another plus is Perth being a family friendly city. I can take my baby out in a stroller and go to places without having to fold and lift my stroller. There are plenty of public parks and playgrounds, they are clean and well maintained. If you go a bit further out the CBD, average people can still afford to buy a house with a decent backyard. It's definitely becoming more vibrant of late with a lot of events happening and new food places popping up.

I was born and bred and still live in Melbourne but travel to Perth every second year - I just love it. My avatar is a photo of Scarborough Beach that I took on one of my early morning walks.

Perth is very much behind on trading hours. The state government wants to increase the trading hours for all shops to open at 7am during the week, instead of 8am. The unions are running a huge, and very expensive, advertising campaign opposing this move. If it is this much trouble to permit shops to open at 7am, it is little wonder that our trading hours policy is so restrictive. We were lucky to get the change that permitted shops to open until 9pm and only did so because our Premier used some clever manoeuvring to get just that much.

In other news, spud shed Morley has opened and trading hours are 24x7. Brilliant! I went shopping there at 10:30 last night. Very convenient.

Trading hours have always been a funny thing in Perth. Then again we are part of the Wait Awhile state.
It was seen as a part of the charm of Perth being like a big country town but we have outgrown that label.

We are lucky to have some beautiful beaches, parks and bushland.
I dare anyone to go to Kings Park and not admire the views.

Now all we have to do is bring in daylight savings. but that's a whole different argument.

I did meet his 3 little rays of sunshine :D It's such a shame it was such a wet Easter weekend (though we sorely needed the rain).

Easter Monday was dazzling though. Such a beautiful day, that we went for a walk and picnic at Kings Park. Loved it :)
