    Good lady.
Were they decorative black hinges on the before picture?

    That's cool! Pintrest??

I could do the posts and top battens different colours. Perspex sounds expensive but could work around it somehow. I'm not after shade as the house faces east so it's only morning sun coming onto the deck

Yeah I'd go some polycarbonate instead of perspex. Just something to keep the weather off the door. Polycarb trimdeck is your friend when you want minimal pitch (3-5 degrees)

I know it's up to my council. Do you guys think this kind of roofing with ground deck normally needs a DA?

Under certain m2 doesn't need a da, along with a few other things. I did another out the back 19.5m2 to keep under the 20m2 limit

We're a family publication but we can use a strategically placed claw hammer and shoot in black and white to keep the images "classy"

    @Westminster

I think battens could be good. But hiding the polycarbonate could be tricky. Possibly angle the awning back into the current gutter (could use replacing) to hide the polycarb edge and not have a gutter off the front.

It's not a very big awning and I don't want it dark.

Actually... the guy I want to do it told me about a job he had done else where and he used these new stirrup type connections through the tiles (? I'll google) and the awning sits above the existing gutters and last tile or two so it uses the existing roof and gutters for drainage and doesn't require any modifications it becomes a simple frame above the gutter/fascia.

Then it can pitch back to the roof making it feel open and show off the battens on the under side

Depends on the area vibe but potentially a hand rail around the timber deck. In my opinion I wouldn't make a feature of the deck by covering it in because who wants to sit in their driveway but a low cost handrail with strategically placed plants would add some zing.

    Looks like an interesting solution.
Does it cost a heap extra to do it like that?

That is the most unappealing thing I've ever seen.

@bob shovel I like that stirrup idea - then you have a nice high roof rather than attaching to the fascia or lower and it then seems low.

Only slightly if it did. It would use those instead of connecting the the fascia, so your paying the difference in connections. not sure how much they are but at most I'd think a couple $hundred more.

Well, maybe not ever. :p But the one on the back right looks like a girl I went to school with, which you have to admit is disturbing.

They've got the same face but he's got nicer hair. So he wins.
