    I've just been reading up on Peter Thornhill and was going to purchase his book - does he mention the specific LIC's that he invests in or that he considers investment worthy?

    Strike out MLT now. Wonder if he decided to retain SOL instead not that it matters.

    I'll restate the major elements I got from PT over the years:
    • spend less than your income;
    • keep gearing low - if you're into that and I'm not;
    • keep on investing no matter what;
    • don't fall in love with money itself.
    Nothing exciting there at all really.

    ok i've just had a look at those, and over the last 5 years only BKI has massively underperformed the ASX200, while ARG and WHF have been in-line, and SOL has outperformed it:

    https://www.google.com/finance/quot...5Y&comparison=ASX:BKI,ASX:WHF,ASX:ARG,ASX:SOL

    I look forward to reading more about his methodology

    Cheers

    LICs have nothing to do with PT's success. I'm pretty sure he also still owns like +70 individual stocks (he got in on CBA/CSL from the beginning).

    But yeah, most of his success is down to this: (I would also add in "investing over a LONG period of time")

    Agree, I think the clear message is more to do with psychology as opposed to picking the winner.
    Diversified portfolio, live well within your means and time!
    Oh and rent the lifestyle (sorry this one rules me out)

    He's said many times that his plan is to bequeath only a few LICs to his wife when he passes, which will be much easier for her to manage.
    Perhaps all the stock picks will go to his sons? Or he has been selling them off?

    On the other hand, it's much simpler to write a book when you have a clear list of rules to follow. And an all LIC portfolio is pretty darn simple.
    Much like how Scott Pape the Barefoot Investor is dead against taking on more debt, I'm sure he borrows to invest in shares, but that complicates his best-seller book. Best to just say one thing to your masses, and do another.

    How could you forget the top two?

    #6 Buy property for investment no matter what
    #7 Buy resource/mining and/or REIT shares with your savings until you have enough saved up for property deposit.

    Joking he hates property and mining/REIT companies.

    Cheers,
    Oracle.

    Peter has scheduled 3 in-person events this/next month:

    Full Day Presentation.

    The response has been overwhelming so I will be scheduling 3 sessions initially and add as necessary.
    The initial dates are the Saturdays 28th of May, 4th June and 18th June. The venue will be as before; the Rydges Hotel, 9 Missenden Road in Camperdown near Sydney University.
    The cost of the course is $410.00 per person. Please click the link [in your email] to book your seat.

    In the first minute Veronica states as if it was fact "We know there are better income producing assets than real estate".
    So it's obviously biased to start. And it's BS.
    And from someone who calls herself a "property investment advisor" is a buyers agent and selling an RE course.
    So why is she recommending RE and selling a course if there are better assets?

    Then there's her definition of "A grade property" being "You just know". uhm ...sure luv.

    I reckon she is clueless about property investing and has no idea what she is talking about.
    Her is to talk, talk lots about nothing pretending to be an expert.

    There are many elephants in the room and it's these "experts" that are clueless and pretend to have the answers.

    What Thornhill doesn't mention much is that he was a high paid executive making endless comissions telling people to invest in the funds he worked for.
    "how much money you have invested over the 29 years?"
    "the total cost basis was $3.7 million"
    "The current market value is $8.6 million."

    88 to 17? I'd say you could do better in Real estate with 3.7m and keep buying.

    "has averaged 14.5% over the 29 years."
    You'd have to start with 150k in '88 to get 8mil in 17. Or be adding substantial (to the average earner) amounts to get to that amount.

    Always interesting links though @Redwing food for thought.
