    I wrote in another thread,

"On a population basis, the middle of Sydney is actually 4km east of Parramatta, in Rydalmere/Ermington. So Parramatta is pretty much at the centre of Sydney's population. Residents feel the pull of the east as high-rise living makes up ground | smh.com.au"

I just remembered... Rydalmere/Ermington is in Parramatta's Local government area. So the centre of Sydney's population is... wait for it.... is truly in Parramatta*....
    Mindblown...

    *LGA, that is.

The amount of building going on in Parramatta is absolutely insane, I can probably see around 20 cranes from my office.

I still really don't like Parramatta, but hopefully the ongoing gentrification will change that.

I'm guessing for my house price it's good being within 10km of the second CBD.

From memory, the population centre of Sydney used to be slightly further west.

Seems the recent infill-development in the inner suburbs is having an effect of centralising the population a bit more.

    Yay for Ermington!

I still don't get what this centre of Sydney thing means though.
Is my property worth more as a result?
If not I aint really interested :p

Yes I think houses on good sized blocks within 3-4KM of Parramatta will do well over the next 10-15 years. Initially Parramatta will have a tsunami of apartments and office space and wont do much - there's just so much supply coming.... but like night follows day, the gentrification of Harris Park, Rosehill, North Parramatta etc will follow ... actually its already started. And then will come the cool restaurants and bars and what not...

Parramatta already has well established rail, will see further improvements from light rail - has arguably one of Sydney's bigger retail and restaurant precincts... and once the Parramatta multi billion dollar city centre rebuild is complete and the riverfront rejuvenation is complete, I think it will probably do quite well... But that's all several years off yet

I should have bought a crappy shed in Ermington or dundas Valley years ago..now average house is greater than a million. Rydalmere house price is crazy. Got in at a good time. :)

My parents should have held Dundas Valley because in the 18 years since, that property went up on average 12% per year...

The suburbs here are getting better and more and more apartments. My friend on station St who owns a townhouse together with her 3 neighbours sold to developers.

We took the kids to Parramatta River... Wow they have improved the area long the river with playground etc...near the river cat wharf. I think if the Parramatta River is peppered with restaurants and cafes facing the river will make it even better than just the boring office buildings. Church St is good but riverside even better.
