I recently had an internal door bricked up, and it was rendered with sand plaster.

What product should I use to finish the surface ready to paint? Something easy to find and that can be sanded if needed

    Thanks!

What do you mean by "sand plaster"?

    4 weeks to dry out.

Rub it with a block of timber to remove loose sand.

Coat with water-based sealer/primer & two coats of your preferred paint.

Oooh you're going to need whiteset plaster on top of that which is generally done by a plasterer especially tie it in to existing plaster levels

I do know people that have managed to DIY it quite successfully but if you don't have the skills it's best done by a plasterer so that it's flat and you won't see ripples/imperfections when you paint it/

Yep, forgot that was bog standard in WA - old school building.

You won't know what's hit you when you get a well sealed building with reverse brick veneer, insulation & double glazing.

    Maybe another 20 years

By the way if there are more walls that you are pulling down or changing just get the plasterer in at the end to do them all at once because they are in super high demand and will be more economical to do all the work at once.

Then allow the whiteset plaster to dry properly then base coat then paint. Don't rush it because you'll end up with your paint peeling off.
