    Hi experts,
In the process of applying for change of use for my resi IP to be re-purposed for simple straight fwd
GP use. One of the criteria & challenge being sufficient onsite car park.

My property happens to be on opposite of a large public car park on same street which provides for
parking overflow for my property. However, I wonder if anyone knows if it's possible to apply to the
council for "reserved" bays from the public car park to address the onsite car park requirement?

Has anyone done something similar with existing commercial property for example?

    Thanks!!!

I'd suggest chatting to a town planner to see if it is possible to gain an exemption and also apply to have an accessible parking space on the street.

My physio is located in a residential property - although it has a converted garage (gym), the driveway is used for drop-offs and no onsite parking is provided. Vacant council owned land is located opposite and is used for parking by the neighbours, randoms, boats, caravans, trailers etc.

Councils will generally have a mimimum requirement for the site and disregard other free public parking nearby unless the centre is in a shopping centre for example. The centre has already allowed for suitable parking. And handiscapped parking is also required which can quickly consume space. And direction of entry and exit may all need to be considered eg no reversing out. That chews up space.

Medical (Docs or Dentist) use comes with sewer, ramps, rails and other issues and there is a trend to one stop centres where radiography etc is all in house. Another option can be professional consulting suites that dont have a high frequency of use. eg specialists but they like near hospitals. Physio etc is a option as could a tax agent, solicitor etc. A TP may be wise to advise.

The medical practice that I use has a public car space opposite, it has parking spaces reserved and marked with the street no of the practice - everyone uses these spaces, a patient has to fight to park just like the rest of us ... :D
