    Hi all,
I want to convert a dining space of my house into a bedroom. This involves minor work like closing a door on an existing wall (inside the house) and opening up another one on the adjacent wall.

Had a chat with council and they said, closing a door may be fine but opening up a door on the wall is a structural change, so they will need a plan to be submitted.

Has anyone done this sort of activity and know whom I need to involve to get this done and approx. how much such plans cost to create? It is simple 70s brick veener house and walls are wooden post inside and plaster board.

You could contact a drafty & a certifier to see If you can get away with complying development or totally ignore council.

I would get a qualified carpenter to do it for you and ignore Council.

A carpenter not a handyman because you need to be sure it is supported properly with a beam if it’s load bearing.

Especially if there are no copies of the plans at Council! But do it properly.
