I moved into a house 3 months ago. Received my first gas bill which was high as I'm never home. Asked the tenant in granny flat about his bill he said his was the same. So i turned my gas off when i was away for 4 days and had granny flat guy knocking on my door saying he just found out there is only one meter. So he paid me. Now i have a bigger than normal water bill from real-estate i asked to see original bill so i can see what i used. Still waiting on huge power bill. Only the gas is in my name as was told owner has a builders meter on the power and can work out what i have used. Is this legal?

so you received a gas bill and the granny-flat tenant got a bill also ?
how do you get two gas bill from the gas company with only one meter ?

i ask the same question about the electricity. is the account in your name ?

St Clair NSW ? In NSW usually the landlord pays the water bill.

what did you agree to pay for in your lease.

Under NSW tenancy legislation, your power, water & gas are to be separately metered or you cannot be liable for the charges as noone can determine how much is attributed to each user. Read your lease

    Hi,

Can you just clarify: who did the granny flat tenant receive a bill from for the gas? And are you saying their bill was unusually high also?

If you both received separate gas bills from the provider it should have different meter numbers on it. Can you confirm this?

If the utilities are separately metered, they can charge them to you. You haven't been clear about (or don't know) whether there are separate meters.
