Landmark decision: Tribunal overturns ban allowing owner to rent unit on Airbnb

I think this is a great outcome- I have talked about it consistently on here but in our experience, airbnb guests are for the most part very well behaved (and if they aren't, they are only staying for a very short time- and you can kick them out if they break any rules). By contrast, poorly behaved owners are impossible to get rid of, as are tenants on a lease

On the other hand, the NCAT decision doesn't seem like it has been well thought out.

As mentioned in the article, Carlo Fini's insightful opinion on the decision (see attached) only reiterated the fact that the NSW NCAT needs additional financial and legal support from the Attorney General's Dept for strata complaints, given the dramatic increase in apartment blocks being built in Sydney.

And Stephen Goddard, the strata lawyer quoted, of the Owners Corporation Network, is correct in describing the decision as "appalling", and one can only assume he was not in a bad mood at the time.
