It's an ok song but I'm not sure it's a national anthem, the only time we ever play the bloody anthem is at big sporting events really,

I thought we were moving away from that song as it does not embrace multiculturalism!?

Are we talking about the same song?

My thoughts too, as We Are Australian is very inclusive

I am, you are, we are Australian? That one right?

‘We share a dream and sing with one voice’ goes against the multicultural movement, doesn’t recognise the idea that a person is a ‘xxx’ Australian or xxx living in Australia. I have heard complaints about it in the past that it did not represent Australia as being a diverse culture. That said it now seems widely accepted.

I dunno - they look pretty inclusive to me (although need to up the 40,000 to 60,000) - although, what do I know, being a squeaky white middle aged female

    I came from the dream-time
    From the dusty red-soil plains
    I am the ancient heart
    The keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shores
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I've been
    The first Australian
I came upon the prison ship
    Bowed down by iron chains
I bought the land, endured the lash
    And waited for the rains
    I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife
On a dry and barren run
A convict, then a free man
    I became Australian
I'm the daughter of a digger
    Who sought the mother lode
    The girl became a woman
On the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the Depression
I saw the good times come
    I'm a bushie, I'm a battler
    I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
    I'm a teller of stories
    I'm a singer of songs
    I am Albert Namatjira
And I paint the ghostly gums
    I'm Clancy on his horse
I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda
    I am Australian
I'm the hot wind from the desert
I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys
I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky
    The rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land
    I am Australian
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We'll share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
"I am, you are, we are Australian"

I've never heard that, but I think it misses the point of the song. "We are one, but we are many, and from all the lands on earth we come" sums up multiculturalism pretty well. I take "we share a dream, we sing with one voice" to be representative of multiculturalism - that's the dream isn't it?

I like that song, but I don't think it sounds that great when sung in unison, so that could be the practical reality of it.

That sounds more like the fake complaint that would pop up on a conservative news channel.

    Inertia.

Yep, it ignores the rest of the sentence which obviously states that the thing that is being sung with one voice is we are Australian.

There is nothing wrong with this song, I don’t thing there would be a problem if the country switched to this anthem. However there will always be a small minority who will want to stir up problems,
Don’t forget we do, “Welcome to country”, at most occasions as well and we also used to recite the pledge.
I think it’s good to sing the National Anthem in sporting events. As kids we would do it when we had assembly’s.
I also felt looking back that kids studied a proper Social studies and geography curriculums where they learnt more about Australian flora and fauna including state and national emblems, famous landmarks etc. Lot of kids these couldn’t tell what the NSW floral emblem was or what was on the coat of arms, and that’s a shame.
I’m glad that regional Australia is getting some focus in the property world right now and many people are getting back in touch with agriculture, growing things etc.

In my line of work, almost every day.

"Gaaawwwn, check out that line of girts on that shed would ya?"

"I'll need another 3t of girts to finish off that side & 150kg oh HT nuts, bolts & washers"

"don't scratch your nuts on those girts, they'll rust prematurely"

    I don't know what you're on about @geoffw

I like the change - it's simple and removes the issue of "young".

It will no doubt cop some criticism because we aren't really "one" yet - but I see it as aspirational, something we are striving for - like an anthem should be.

Good beginning ... now they simply have to rewrite the second verse ... and meaningfully acknowledge the First People's beyond the token words and odd smoking ceremony

Every Australia Day I’m surrounded by people who say “invasion day?” and laugh, followed by “the Aboriginals should just get over it”

There’s a lot of similar ignorance in here. This is a really good start if people want to educate themselves a bit
