Doesn't google work on the weekends in your area? I buy the weekend papers. Love sitting on the deck with a coffee and a *** reading them. I sometimes buy the week day papers too if it's convenient. Online is good for looking for a specific topic or story. Paper is much better for cruising through the news. I like to flick through.
I Think it went bust in the mid 1990"s,plus they would be in court these days if they were still in business once they trigger numerous copyright laws and political correctness ,back then they could post none fake news..
Well I get 'The Age' delivered and often read the Herald Sun at a cafe with my coffee. (Must be my age, 63 ) The thing I like as I look through the paper is that I find interesting articles I probably wouldn't see on the web. I do look at the web a lot but find you only tend to come across things Google thinks you are interested in which can be limiting.
The TV guide? Newspaper's little magazines is what is and will continue to make them survive. The TV guide. The gossip mag. The business success story mag. etc etc. Newspapers have been heading down this path and I expect them to continue.
Ah yes. The Melbourne Truth. From an era before sex became mainstream. One of the better headlines of the era came from the Truth. "Silicon Breast Enlargements- Sham Dame or Damn Shame?".
We recently cancelled our Canberra Times daily paper delivery as the papers are getting thinner, the articles are less interesting and the price keeps going up. My wife was the only one reading it and I have now shown her how to get the CT online for free, which has most of the articles she was interested in anyway. I also read the AFR online. Wouldn't pay for it though.
I still purchase the Advertiser each Saturday. Really only read the obituaries (that age group now), and the weekend magazine, which is then recycled in the bottom of the kitty litter tray
Yeah, the online obits didn't ever really take off. A part of it may have been that the target market wasn't quite up with the technology. Another part was that it was so fragmented. Every funeral home has its own obit section, and people aren't even putting ads in the mainstream newspapers so much any more. Perhaps they need one central company to make a thing of obits so that there's just one repository of death records. Google Death anybody?
newspapers are good as a base carbon source. Nowadays they are filled with so many real estate ads, so I just use them in my compost or use them to start my BBQ.
We like to clean the BBQ with them, very handy... but how many trees does this involve??.... eventually I hope the only way you will see newspapers will be seen in museums.. hehe
Does anyone read or buy those glossy mags ie Womens day etc?? I don't buy these..... but I confess I like reading the goss while at the hairdresser, dentist etc. Pretty important stuff like Karl Stafanovic? leaving his wife for a younger version, or the price of Meghan Markel's diamond ring..... MTR
