Yep currently the rail terminates at Hamilton, although plans are to build a new terminal station at Wickham and then extend light rail from there into the City. Workers are out onsite today removing the old rail infrastructure and the rail lines between Hamilton and Wickham have already been removed to build the new station.

The majority of the vacant property along the railway are owned by the State government. I think there are a couple of Council owned properties towards the eastern end of the former railway line too.

@Moych thx for the live update.

(I vaguely recall that a lot of the land is car park which is rail land and a well known developer had a few larger retail sites).

The state government has also purchased The Store, next to the Wickham interchange site.

@Scott No Mates not a problem.

You're right there are a few car parks along the corridor, some are Council owned and some are State owned. The rail corridor itself is basically just the footprint of the rail lines (although it does include the bus terminal at Watt St) and this will been managed by the State. Urban Growth are still finalising their plans for the redevelopment of the area, although hopefully their plans should come out fairly soon. Following the release of the Urban Growth plan, I think a lot of those car park sites may be up for some form of development.

With the sackings going on in the Railways and buses i would hold back.
Apparently senior Management of both Sydney Trains and Newcastle are being privatised .

And so they should be, lazy *******s .

Bank values for my Newcastle property are higher. Really the only opinion that matters to me.

I wish I bought in Lambton or New Lambton but now the price is too high for me. I always liked Newcastle and used to go there every year for a trip.

You waited for a fair while. Are you still looking to buy in Newcastle?

At the moment, just waiting and seeing how everything turns out in the market Larry. I am open to all areas but like I talked to you previously, I am still keeping an eye out in Albury.

    Are they being sacked?

From what I heard the Government is attempting to get a single operator (Private or Public, both are invited to bid) to manage the buses, ferries, and new light rail. I would have thought this could be a good thing, the current timetables are rubbish. At the very least, putting it out to bid will get the Public sector to have a look at streamlining the system.

    great feedback @Moych.
i counted 7 tower cranes in the sky atm between Wickham and newcastle beach, feels like every 2nd building is getting renovated or re built.

Huge shame that the newcastle train station markets didn't get the go ahead in my opinion.

Not a great place to invest. Overall people will continue to move away from there. And those that remain there or move there are lower income people. Stay away as an investor.

Where are you referring to specifically? Can't generalise about Newcastle as it is large enough to have various submarkets.

What's the basis of your statements? Your past posts suggest that you have a strong interest in Gold Coast and Queensland. Love to hear your reasoning re Newcastle.

I've got 7 townhouse developments in Newcastle alone on the go, plus 5 more in Maitland. Give me some time! :p

I'm overseas end of the month. I'll get something organised pre Christmas.
