    Folks,

Recently I got the phone call from the Property manager that my tenant is requiring a separate or digital water meter for the water billing?

They pointed out: RTA in Focus: Water usage charges

So I wonder, the property is an existing house, there is a water meter that is already running, but not sure why this tenant is bringing up the matter with the PM so they want some new water meter device installed?

Is the house part of a dual or multi occupancy block?

    No it is single block.
There is a granny flat at the back, but the tenant is just lease the whole block as single property under one lease.

If the tenant is leasing the entire block then only one Sydney Water meter is required (the existing one) and the tenant is liable to pay for water usage.

Once the granny flat is separately leased then a second Sydney Water meter would be needed in order to recover water usage charges from both the house and the granny flat.

Are they wanting the GF to be metered separately?

If so I think it could be they want to or are subleasing the GF to a family member or otherwise, and want to apportion the bill to have people pay what they use.

Just conjecture though, but I'd be wary.
