I hadn’t heard of induction until last year when I was looking at purchasing a new cook top.

Unless you have gone or going through the process of replacing a cooktop in the last few years or building a new home why would people be aware of induction cooktops and its limitations with many types of cook ware.
My mum is still using a cooktop that is over 25 years old.
Were at 10 years with a baumatic .
    For the rental its K.I.S.S.
    Keep it simple.
Personally I think putting an induction cooktop in a rental is not the smartest move , but if its already there , then thats what it is.

You've seriously never seen the ads where they crack an egg straight onto the glass top and nothing happens? I remember them from when I was a kid.. 15 odd years ago it was all the rage...

Putting their hands on it everything..

It was like magic when they started cooking stuff in a pan.

I've got some cracker names for my children

Oak, fire, chop, maple, morning, hard and wax.

    Poor kids.

Probably because you are in Brisbane.

In Victoria, gas has been the most popular cooktop for many years.

I’ve no idea, but doubt it is state specific. Gas is pretty much everywhere in Brisbane too.

I grew up with electric coils. Since my first house I’ve always cooked on gas. Our developer friend is a foodie and put induction into his townhouses, has also put it into his own house and says he’ll never go back to gas.

I’m not here to argue but simply surprised (particularly on a property forum) that someone has never heard of induction. it’s pretty mainstream these days.

    You forgot Rose.

I'd really feel ripped off for the poor kid that's named Ply though.

I have heard of it now but just over a year ago I hadn’t. But then, I don’t spend time in appliance stores. I first noticed one in Aldi!

At some point new technology becomes mainstream and induction is at that point. It has been around for decades. My plastic handled pots don't work on an open fire either.

Induction has a lot of positives. I'm almost ready to give up gas :)

    Small person syndrome?

    Except for @Sackie :D

Maybe they spent all of their savings on expensive cookware and can no longer afford to buy a home. It is a long term investment afterall.

The last one's upbringing would have been really polished.

Induction is still relatively new in terms of normal households and it is definitely uncommon in rentals.

I agree that this may change. But just now, if I needed to change cooktops in a rental
in Victoria I would most likely use gas.

And I'm bloody glad I didn't. Before you know it I'd be getting requests from buyers to throw in new electric gaggenau cooktops or Le Creuset cookware!

Money doesn't grow on trees you know!!

Induction have a few serious limitations , and coming from a trained cooking background I would never put one in a rental or one that may become a rental .
They also interfere with pacemakers, and are not ideal for people with insulin pumps .
They really struggle with certain types of cooking , that involve tossing food and wok cooking where you need heat to go up the sides, also to mention that many woks wont work very well and the unit shuts down evertime the pan is removed and tossed around.
As the OP has found out , its causing some major issues.

Then they would also shy away from anything which wasn't gas.

Just pointing out a major fault with induction tops , everytime the pan is removed and tossed the unit shuts down and restarts.
Which for many products seriously affects the life of the product.
They really struggle with certain styles of cookery and dont work with a lot of equipment.
Which makes it a no brainer for rentals, especially if you want older people that may have pacemakers or require insulin pumps.

lol...who still wants too poison themselves with Al....maybe you should just oblige and assist...

I have some induction tops for our use, you could also go get a plug in bench top hot plate for them.
