Hmm..don't think much of the article. It perpetrates that money is the ultimate benchmark of success. I ask - at the expense of what? Personal relationships, respect for others, respect for social 'rules'? I believe we can teach our children to be successful holistically.

Seriously, this type of article gives parents permission to allow their kid to be 'naughty' - or even flaunt it as a precursor to financial success.

I have good kids - are they destined to be poor/less successful? I doubt it - they are good because I have taught them well and instilled sound values - and it has been bloody hard work - and I will take full credit for it!

The same can't be said about my brother. Love him, but certainly the black sheep of the family.

Found this post when looking for some reassurance.
When supermarket shopping yesterday ready for another week went thru the register and went to pay, eftpos declined, thinking it odd we tried again, declined o_O
Fortunately we have a backup debit card ;)
Checked the online backing account when home again, to find that there was a heap of unauthorized deductions
Turns out the youngest at 11yo decided to sneak the debit card from the car console and use the card to buy lives/food/weapons and other items on the Xbox to play Fortnight
    Emptying the account
Worse, he knows better as we have been thru this previously with him :(
One Naughty kid who will be lucky to see adulthood at this rate

My son is going to be loaded too! Last night he wanted to go out so he brought me my shoes, I said “we are not going out, we are about to have dinner” so he walked over to the table, grabbed a glass and smashed it on the floor. When my husband was vacuuming it up he chucked a tantrum because I wasn’t letting him go walk in the glass. When husband was done my son went to the cupboard and got the weetbix, and poured them all over the floor. Then my husband went to vacuum that up and he unplugged the vacuum from the wall. Then he threw his dinner on the floor and cracked up laughing. He’s not even two! Going to be a billionaire lol

Naughty kids are probably more likely to make more money, because they aren't as risk adverse. Good kids tend to be good, because they are risk adverse.

Better test for financial success is delayed gratification.

I've got an aunty who is very scared of lots of things. Too scared to ever get a drivers licence, which limits her job options, too scared to ever take a promotion at work (she worked in a supermarket) so she was a checkout operator for about 20 years. The supermarket went under and many supermarkets are now using self service checkouts...
She ended up doing nightfill in another supermarket, but only casually. (Stores prefer juniors for this sort of work, cheap and fast, it's not rocket science).

She says she could be a swimming teacher or work in aged care, but I don't know if she'll ever take the steps to do it...

Sounds like she needs to see a psychologist to help work on her anxiety.

never too late to start, first step is to decide on what you want and lay out a vision or goal (to quote a cliché)

    or assertiveness training.
