We have abandoned use of MYOB client accounting software after years and years. Why ? Cause they have retrospectively cancelled ability to use all software versions using a harddrive. Its now cloud or nothing. So its nothing. We are also required to pay a fee to access a clients own software.

This may impact anyone who used to share or use their MYOB with their accountant. They should have discussions with their accountant about alternatives. There are loads of them. Would have been nice to have a heads up....But thats MYOB.

My prediction ? MYOB will be a shadow of its-self soon. Start date for day zero closure of MYOB software is 1st April....Appropriate date.

Ive never understood why they charge accountants for the software. Xero was smart and offered it for free.

I keep an old computer with a desktop version to do our accounts for multiple entities. Doesn't require connecting to the internet.

Don't see the point in paying a monthly fee to do something that used to be free.

I can see maybe they are trying to get into a subcription based revenue stream where the receive recurring monthly income rather than one off payment for software, but our accounting is so simple I think I would go back to spreadsheets rather than fork out for monthly accounting software.

How I felt when YNAB moved to subscription based cloud model. Still on the old pay once version and use dropbox for "personal cloud" access.

Changed to Xero a few years ago now and very glad we did. Much easier and more user friendly than MYOB was becoming. Embrace the cloud @Paul@PFI :D

I still use MYOB. Why not? It does what I need, costs nothing to run and my data is secure.

There is a good write up of why Xero is a good solution here: Review of Cloud Accounting: Xero, Saasu, MYOB, QuickBooks | Business IT

And a good write up on security risks and how to manage them: Cloud Accounting and ERP Security Risks | Business IT

I think I am using MYOB 11. If MYOB won't let me use it after April 1, I will never buy a MYOB product again.

None. Our servers are 100% cloud. The migration means clients using myob must use only a myob hosted service and cant share. Unless we pay or choose a costly plan. Their myob just expired

Our sageone at $6 a month or full accrual for $12pm is what we have been supporting. Days of paying for hosted software are as old fashioned as phone line rental. I just find it bizarre myob have killed off all past software and faaarked over accountants who arent loyal.

Bye bye myob. Sorry you have forced clients but they will now find better choices

    I dont.

After 25+ years my preferred accounting software is Sage Handisoft for all except SMSFs. Then its BGL. SimpleFund.

Worst are myob xero and quickbooks.

Based on quality and ease of use for end user. Sage dont sell retail but have retail products partners can support.

Sassu lacks integration beyond thinking small. And true australian use. No multi currency etc..Depends on needs. Its not a product if you need professional outcomes and real sharing

For 12pm Sage does all thatt plus multicurrency (Sassu has that but unsure if its robust for receivables and payables...many others are poor in that area) and allows invoices and customer cloud invoices and fully imports to professional software and tax. Literally minimal extra effort. Just depends on needs...No depreciation. Etc. I havent used Saasu as its not high end. One of many stand alone products that seems good but its just bank data and simple cloud support...all do that now.
