Hubby and I are due to move out of our old place and into our new place (settlement is Friday 11th Sept ) however vendors have today informally expressed concern they may not be able to move out due to the stage 4 lockdown here in Victoria.

We're pretty keen to move and had removal guy on notice to move us on the weekend 12/13 Sept.

We don't know how to respond. We don't want to come across as mean people so we'd be happy to give them another week, say to the 20th Sept, but it's looking like stage 4 might continue until mid-October which will cause us problems.

Go through your conveyancer/solicitor, but moving house is one of the allowed activities.

    Hi Peter,

    Thanks for your response.

The sellers know they're allowed to move but it sounds like they're having trouble with getting vacant possession of their new home.

We hate to be meanies and tell them "bad luck", even though we'd really hanging out to move in the new place I think we could give them another week but not another month.

And if they stay in "our" house after settlement then what if something happens and property sustains damage (not necessarily anybody's fault)

@Sasha_Melb talk to your conveyancer. You may not be able to get possession of the property when you need it, but you may be able to get compensation.

Could they move to a hotel and put their stuff in storage?
