Would the Carmichael coal make the price lower due to increased supply?

Global consumption is about 9billion tons / year, of which, China consumes nearly half. Consumption rates are still growing in spite of renewables ramping up.

This project's maximum forecast production rate is 60million tons / year, so probably not much impact on price.

Well ok its a bit like WTI and Brent Crude oil prices then...

But still, Aussie coal price last year May 2016 ->55.16, Jun 2016 -> USD$56.97 and not a "floor of $85/t YTD" as you claimed.(if your YTD means year to date)

In fact, it has been trending down below $70/t from OCt 2014 onwards till the rebound around July 2016 when China did their infrastructure stimulus and started shutting their coal mines with the 276 working day/year policy, which was reversed end of last year IIRC.

Adani plans to export low quality, high ash coal to India, court told
[A report to the court made on its behalf said the Carmichael mine would produce "two coal products".

"Product one, a low ash/moderate energy product most suitable for Asian premium markets," the report said.
So the coal bound for India could be a fairly low-grade product.

Mr Canavan said while it might not be the highest quality coal in Australia, "it's still much much higher than the coal quality in India".

When asked about whether he was aware of the plan to produce two different coal quality products, Mr Canavan said "different coal companies create different products for different circumstances".

"There is also the opportunity to blend and then officiate that coal at the other end. That's a commercial decision for themselves," he said.]

Not sure whats actually going to happen, best case scenario for this kid is, Adani gets full approval, gets funded, Adani announces Townsville is the FIFO hub and in a few years, this along with the stadium and a few other infrastructure projects actually start giving me a bit of capital growth. Starting to feel a bit like the desperate salesman in the Simpsons "Old Gill needs this one" :)

Why are people on here happy that this is going through? Doesn’t create that many jobs, it destroys the environment and impacts tourism more.

Adani is known to be corrupt.
