Most capitals have gone up 10x in that 30 years: 1980-2010.

Also interesting to note that $581k Sydney median price in 2010, I think sydney hit $1mill recently

Interesting how the relative prices change. Sydney double bne in 1980 just like now more or less. And bne higher than melb in 2010

When you think about it properly really is just an investment in time

to think Perth's median price surpassed Sydney at one stage for a very short period around 2006 and is now 50% less.
Just shows prices don't continually trend upwards.

Mind boggling when you start to think what would have happened if the mining boom continued.
Would Sydney have still gone that high if more money was going elsewhere?

So in contrary to what people seem to believe, Sydney would have actually been the worst place to invest in over the long term!

Perth is a country town which mimics the boom and bust cycle of a typical mining town. When there's money around, they splash it around in their own backyard rather than looking at the sustainability of the investment ie risk.

One thing for sure after a boom cycle we get a bust cycle.

Let me think? where is Sydney now, my guess is we are now heading for a bust

Who'd want to live in Watsons Bay 40 years ago? Parking a pain, a bad rap with nudist beach, no supermarket, poor public transport, right at the dodgy end of town.
