I have the most beautiful Golden Retriever. She's been part of our family for more than 15 years. She was a birthday present for my sons 6th birthday. He's now 21.

She's been very well loved and has loved us in return.

Has been a long time coming, and something we've tried to delay as long as possible, but tomorrow she's going to the vet to have a long sleep :(

Love having pets, but so heart breaking to say goodbye. Feeling very sad tonight.

15 is very very good for a golden retiever. It's such a difficult time - and yes, heart breaking. Look after yourself and take things easy now and later.
    P.S. She is beautiful.

We endured this with our lovely little poodle last year. We had the vet come to our house to save that last sad drive. Our little doggie who once loved the car, grew to hate it as he knew he was going to the vet. He would shake the whole way.

That was a very traumatic and very sad morning and I still get upset about it.

I'm so sorry you are going to have to go through this tomorrow. Hugs to you XXOO

She had a beautiful life. Going peacefully is better than suffering. Sadly it is hard on the loved ones.

    Oh :(

I don't know how I'll handle it when our dog goes - hopefully we have many more years ahead of us.

    Thinking of you tomorrow @Nemo30

    :( I'm so sorry to hear this,@Nemo30.

Our dog is only four and a half so hopefully this isn't something I'll have to deal with for a while but I already know it will be devastating.

    Thinking of you for tomorrow.

Thank everyone... They really do become family. We've been very lucky to have her for as long as we did.

    Very sad.

We took on a 7 year old labbie this year. I look at his sad looking face and his greying hair and wonder if we made the right decision not to start with a pup, but as someone said, 'it's better to have loved and lost, than never to have lost at all'.

Poor doggy. Sounds like a good 15 years though!

I think dogs are like a good wine, they get better with age.

It's just a shame they don't live longer.

Been there done that - never easy. I got the job of bringing both our dogs to the vets for the last time.

All the best for tomorrow @Nemo30

Me too but the thing is you got to give your lab a great life -even if it was the last half. They definitely don't live long enough and there's not much you can do to protect yourself from the loss. But all the time and love shared is worth it.

So sorry Nemo. We're facing similar at the moment, my guy (that's him in my avatar, a three-legged Great Dane) has been fighting cancer for almost a year. He lost a back leg to bone cancer last May and now it's in his lungs. He's been on borrowed time since they confirmed that it had spread in November. He's sat behind me in the office at work now, he comes with me every day and every time I look at him my heart breaks knowing his times up any day yet he's so alert and otherwise healthy. He's only 7 and we've had him since he was 8 weeks.

He's sitting hear trembling a the moment because it's raining and he's petrified of the thought of a storm following, (he's such a big scaredy cat).

Will be thinking of you today.
