Thanks to the compound effect, the passive income generated from a well-established portfolio will increase over time, but we only have 24 hours in a day, 30,000 days in our life to spend it all. Life is too short… Our time is the most valuable resource we have – and it’s finite. We better value time more than money, and stop trading time for money once a sound portfolio is established.

    What do you guys think?

The biggest mistake people make is putting off starting their investing. Doing nothing has an opportunity cost.

Negativity of others is also a big factor that prevents people starting or hinders their progress.

    As above....its balancing time-money.

I think the most underrated skill in investing is determining how much is enough.

This is EX-actly what we have done now. Value how we spend our time more than anything else.

I (and once wedded, we) worked our asses off for over 15 years. I am telling you, we hussled in 1 year what most people would do in 3 to 4 years. In the early days I would read, highlight, make detailed notes on the books I'd read. Property. Business. Autobiographies of succesful people. Even did a full on course in NLP and mindset conditioning to help me negotiate. Literally worked day and night on (in earlier days) our professions then on our businesses. Non stop. Didn't attend family events. Lost many friends because we rarely socialised. Just going from 1 deal to the next. We were so focused that anyone who didn't fit the bill was out. We just were heads down and bums up grinding day in, day out. I still find it hilarious at the silly folks who say it's mostly luck.

ANYHOW....back to your title. Yes. Yes and yes. Time is finite. And absolutely the most important asset to us nowadays. We now could do a lot more business wise if we wanted to but choose not to. We have been blessed with a lot more than enough. We spend the vast majority of our time with our family and friends, with our daughter travelling (pre-covid) and plan to again once borders open. I'm a very proud dad :D. We keep our business ventures to a level where our time is not impacted too much. Have a lot more project managers and business managers nowadays.

We have sacrificed soooo much along the way and if you ask me was it worth it..the easy answer is to say 'Yes', but I have nothing to compare it to it so really I don't know.

What I do know is we are absolutely having a blast in life now due to all the sacrifices we made many years ago. The compounded effect over the years is quite remarkable.

Here's what I learnt. 'Things' won't give you lasting happiness. If you're blessed enough to have a nice car, a nice house etc...sure, enjoy it for what it is. But don't look to it to give you lasting happiness and peace. Possessions can't because that's not their intrinsic power .

We truely believe lasting happiness (and better than happiness, peace) is found in the relationships you cultivate. With your family and good friends and the experiences you share. With your faith and with the people you help and give back to.

Sorry to put y'all to sleep.

High paying jobs take up all your time no matter what industry you're in, I've never seen it any different other than people that get wealth from their parent's or cheat the system somehow. It’s just the way of the world and depending on the people you associate with you might have to rebuild your life a few times.

Amen. I stopped working when I was 36yo on a small rental income of 32k a year. I was pretty frugal then (still am to a degree) but it gave me the freedom to travel and do what I want each day. Less than 20yrs later I'm now getting more than 3x that income but it's way more than enough for my lifestyle

    100%.

The key is to start ones investment journey very early on. But as a youngster its very hard to do. Not everyone can build a 10+ property portfolio at a young age. Firstly most don't have the balls to do it and they wont have the means to do. That covers 99% of ppl.

The remaining 1% that can do it will be able to retire early and not be part of rat race until they are 60+.

I'm not really interested in relaxing at the beach or drinking every day or eating really fancy food or driving expensive cars or any of many things people wish for.
I'm happy as long as my family can live like now. My kids are under 13 now.
If I stop working now, then what I'm I going to do?

Do some hobbies. Surely you have some passions around certain activities that could keep you local to Australia.

I know I'd be playing golf everyday. Go to the USA during the NBA season and travel around the country watching all the NBA games + the slam dunk competitions etc...then I'd travel to UK/Europe to follow the soccer during winter.

Then I'd spend the remaining time in Asia. Japan, Thailand, South Korea, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam - all awesome awesome countries to travel and live short term to enjoy. The cultures are awesome and the food is even better.

Of course thats if your single. Having a family I'd leave the kids with the grandparents and do the same thing......HAHAHAA :)

    Life is short.

    Everything is short.

These are just catch phrases designed to give one an inferiority complex.

And I wouldn’t trust all those snake oil potions and special devices you see advertised over the net. All rubbish. Gimmicks. They just take your money. If your short your short in whatever department be it your life, money etc etc.

Life continues but eventually ALL share markets correct. Then life changes.
At present there are many investors who are blind to this and think its a certain one way. Compounding works in reverse too.
