You've focused alot on the negative for some reason. There are some incredible coaches and programs around. I've worked in the mental health/therapy field for years but now I coach because I think that's what many, if not most people who visit counsellors or mental health services need. There's an enormous gap for competent people in this area. Most have a couple of specialisms and just like you wouldn't accuse a real estate agent of dishing out unqualified financial advice, there's equally no reason to assume coaches would do it.

In my 30 years experience I have found a lot of "coaches" provide very poor guidance and step into fields within business that are outside their depth eg Logistics, Accounting, Marketing, Sales, Product etc. Each area can be a niche problem (and a combined issue) and it cant be solved by a generalist. Throw in HR issues, culture etc and it can lead to a disaster. High priced for the outcomes if it doesnt work. And even preying on the vulnerable with no attachment to the outcomes other than being terminated. Anyone can be called a coach. Its not a designation that indicates their capacity or skills. It tends to encourage both good and bad to adopt the term.

Its a derogatory reference to teachers but the old adage - Those who can, do. Those who cant, teach. Its often true. And in property there are property mentors, coaches, spruikers, real estate agents, buyers agents and wannabees. Sharing personal experience alone isnt coaching.

Okay well we've had completely different experiences though I don't doubt there are incompetent people out there. As with any other role, check out the quals, experience and fit of the person you're considering hiring.Like I said there is enormous demand for competent people in this area.

I've met people in all sorts of career
fields who are terrible at their job. Qualifications alone aren't a guarantee of competence or ethical practice. I'm sure there must be a few accountants who have proved negligent or worse, but why paint everyone with the same brush?
