They're not cars. They're space crafts meant for intergalactic travel.

Musk has the only interglactic car
Where is Starman? Track Elon Musk's Tesla Roadster in Space! · Where is Starman?

Fun fact - Its the fastest production car ever with a current speed of 3371 km per hour.
Also probably has more km's on the odometer than any other too

The car is 159,840,043 miles (257,237,694 km, 1.720 AU, 14.30 light minutes) from Mars, moving toward the planet at a speed of 2,094 mi/h (3,371 km/h, 0.94 km/s).

Chance of this actually going ahead is pretty low, but thought I get my place in the queue

I'm pretty hopeful that a midnight grey Performance Y will be sitting in my garage before March next year. Supposedly in the Nov-Feb tranche but I suspect a lot of orders went in today so we'll see.

    Which one did you order?

A friend was saying that she wanted the hybrid RAV 4 but it's got a 2 year wait list!! Now that's insane!
I can wait 6mths or so for the car that I've been waiting 9mths for orders to even open on.

I would have preferred a dual motor LR, but I went with the standard in blue.

A mate reckons the allocation for the first batch was sold out by about 3pm.

There's a good chance I could flip it for a profit if necessary :)

Problem I have with waiting so long for a new car, is that by the time it arrives many new cars / models have been released and I see something else that I like / want.

I just waited 6 months for a new bmw that has finally arrived. Happy for now. :D

It's always an issue at the moment with such long lead times on just about everything but I am resigned to it. There is nothing on the new release list for the next 3 quarters that floats my boat so I should be ok.

The Model Y would be my pick of the Tesla lot. $105k for a small SUV that does 0-100 in 3.7 sec is good value. But would it kill Tesla to get a bit more creative with the design.

To be fair, I do think the Y is a bit ugly, but it ticks the utilitarian boxes for me. The performance model is wasted on me - I'm no Fangio, and as much as I would like the stats that would leave all the Novocastrian bogans in my dust, the pragmatist in me will win. I would prefer the middle ground of a dual motor LR - with the speed upgrade :) but that one is not a model you can order at the moment

I’ve ordered the Performance Y too. I would change to LR if they release that before mine arrives. The US website you can order it with tow bar, that would be awesome.

To be fair it's utilitarian for me too. I wanted the long range too so it's the reason I went for the performance as it's the same LR battery pack. I do a lot of kms a week (700km++) so I don't want to be charging all the time. The standard range is still more than many of the EVs I kicked off my shortlist though however I do have a bogan hoon of a husband who will enjoy losing his license due to speeding tickets in it :p

I also need to fit a 6ft ever growing 16yo in the backseat and it's one car that does that very well.

My plan is to day charge if I can when I have excess solar power rather than use the grid power on an overnight charge.

I'll be towing my little caravan in the Y so I'll either have to see if the Stealth Hitch fits the Y or wait for the tow bar which is due in 2023 as well.

Was keen in the Y but when I heard the rear seat width is the same as the 3, it's no for me in the short term.

Picked up my lamdcruiser last week after a 7 month wait. They are now advising up to two years.

As a simple question, why would you choose a Tesla Y with the known quality problems of Tesla over a similarly priced Kia EV6 (especially the GT) which also has a 12 month waiting list and has been awarded car of the year for its quality and finish in so many markets.
After wasting three hours trying to find a working charger in Canberra City, I think it’s still too early for me to buy an EV as so many chargers are vandalised or the spaces taken up by ICE vehicles. I’d say another 2-3 years may make them suitable for distance tourers as people get used to NOT parking in the charging spots.
