Youi is a joke..their "savings" is pure marketing spin. Ask a thousand questions and they go charge a higher premium for wasting your time!

I tried this last year with nrma home and vehicle insurance, they said cant do nothing. Then I read horror stories on insures like budget direct and think, maybe nrma not to bad.
Just paid them again last week , should have tried again!

Easiest way to save on home insurance is add a high excess. I always tack $5k excess build/contents, we have alarm, security doors, locks, safe... worth the risk.

Doesn't landline come as a part of NBN now?

Mobile packages can be much cheaper through resellers such as ALDI, Kogan and others. Kogan has deals where you buy a year at a time, like $275 for 12 months with 300gb of data using Vodafone. I've found it generally good, but I rarely go into areas where the coverage is scant, which may be a problem. Others use the Telstra network. Access to 5G may be an issue with the resellers. Whistler.com.au does comparisons of plans.

We went with boost, which uses the Telstra network. $150 for the year with plenty of data (we have WiFi at home and at work).
Both are families are abroad and they offer free international calls.
Although we still seem to use whattsap calls and video for abroad. Old habits.

I built an electric bike for getting around. It's fantastic. Anyone remotely into getting some exercise while saving $$ should consider it.

I got an electric assist cargo bike (Yuba Mundo longtail) a few years back. It essentially became our primary form of transport - our 1 car sits idle for most of the week.

Not everyone would get that much use out of an ebike, but I reckon that most people probably don't need the second car at the very least.

    Cheers,

@albanga great idea and something I have been doing habitually for a long time now. Not just on existing services but with all new services as well.

Mainly at renewal time for insurance NRMA, SGIO, SGIC all generally give a promotional or “one time” discount when pushed. Had my PPOR renewal this week and got it reduced from $1100 to $1000. Another one I always push back on is amount insured on IPs it’s a scam in my opinion. I ended up getting builders quotes for a couple to prove how high the computer estimate was over insuring me. This saved me about $2000 a year over 8 policies.

I call Pepper every 6 months on the day for a rate review and as minimum always get 0.1% over 3 loans. Last time they gave me 0.5% 0.3% and 0.25% i was struggling to keep a calm voice on the phone when they asked if I was happy with that!!!

Telstra dropped our monthly mobile phone / NBN from $179 to $119.

Financial advisers 1% per annum down to 0.8% = saving around $10k per annum.

It just part of the way I do everything now. I really enjoy listening to the initial script read response and then advising them I’m not one of the 99% of people who will go away at the first hurdle so if they want my business either put me on hold for a while and pretend to speak to a supervisor or please get the person who can make a decision on the phone

I probably come a across as a bit of an AH but they are the ones who are ripping off 99% of the population.

If I were you, I would leave out the landline.
NBN: Aussie Broadbank 79 pm (no contract) and its awesome
2 mobiles plans: depends on your usage, but you can do 2 Boost prepaid 365 days for $180 (so $30 a month)
Or have a post paid plan for one mobile (35 a month) and prepaid $150 a year for another

Previously, I would have agreed with you, however we've only just got medical insurance, as Hubby has been plagued with issues and has been frustrated with the public sector. My personal feeling is that it's a waste of money. The only real issue I've ever had was a hip replacement, several years ago, through the public sector, but as we are getting older, Hubby feels more confident having the back up of private.

And check if the particular specialist has the right to practice at the hospital. No point choosing a doctor if they don't have that nor "choosing" the "best" specialist if they are in Queensland but you're going to operated on in Victoria. It'd have to be very special circumstances for that to occur.

Choice of doctor can sometimes be used loosely.

You need to be guided by your GP as he/she would need to refer you, and whether they have private room at Public hospital is first question you ask
