Won’t be long now before mandatory home detention is over then you’ll be back to normal. At least one would hope. Or perhaps this state of mind is the new normal:D.

I'm not the least bit surprised many focus on price especially in superannuation.

Keep pounding people with Your Super, Your Super, Retirement Income, Retirement Income and sure many will fret about it. Then implement a superannuation system where the income is via an account-based pension which has price as a factor and what do you have?

Of course, there is also the issue of how much people have in superannuation particularly close to retirement.

As for me, over time watching the supposed value swing in the $,000's either daily, weekly or whatever wasn't adding anything to my state of mind. I stopped bothering about doing it and it was as if a large weight had been lifted. Seriously, I haven't looked back.

I have been tempted on occasions and there is some mental wrestling going on at times when I look to place excess funds but I overcome it somehow.

Now when such matters arise, I tend to nod sagely and go "Yeah. Real bad" while thinking Pffft, get over it. The cynical part of my soul.

Yep - they understand it very well and have been buying/reinvesting blue chip (and others) shares for 30+ years now ... and it's just a number that it not realised unless you have to sell

I wish my share portfolio dropped $60,000 this last week ;).

But then, I am the same “idiot” who stated that he would love to pay $1M in income tax every year . Boy, didn’t I cop it for that one (from some quarters).

Probably a result of me focusing on what we have and not focusing on what we lost/ don’t have.

I've realised recently I get excited when the market goes up and when the market goes down - either way I feel like I'm winning. A flat market is the worst! :D .... I guess there's always dividend season.....

Just had a quick look myself at the line-up,and as the div's start to flow within 6-7 weeks the face value is not that important because every time i tell myself it's going to break the 7000 mark it goes down 20--40 percent and this time will be no different ..

I was going to post a link from Marc Faber doom boom bust report who is in a Hong Kong Garden and what he is saying is the hand grenade pins being pulled and in slow motion falling..

Yeah, like a lot of people I’ve done quite well this year to date.

Will look to move some of my equity holdings to cash before the 2020 election really heats up as that will probably provide some good buying opportunities.

I am taking this dip as a buying opportunity. Sent cash today, will buy some IOZ tomorrow. Hoping for another hefty fall at the open, love to buy on a down day. US futures are down at the moment so signs are good.

Yep...but in these times better to be conservative and make 3-5% rather than loose 10%-15%!

Last 3 years, October’s average return is -2.29%

BUT for last 4 years, it is +0.26%

    2018 -7.33%
    2017 +2.46%
    2016 -1.76%
    2015 +8.32%

One thing for sure, October is volatile but we are talking about the sharemarket ;)
