For the last 15 years we’ve lived quite a nomadic life, moving towns/cities every few years. Our longest stint in one place was 6 years, the shortest 7 months.

We’ve been in Mandurah 3 years now, out of a 10 year plan and I’m struggling to stay put. There was an advert for Northern Territory jobs and it was like a lure - my hubby works in the government sector and I can work from anywhere so the idea of a quick move to the tropics made my mouth water.

Does anyone else struggle to stay put? I love my home but there’s just something about a new adventure that lights me up. If I didn’t have kids in high school I wouldn’t give it a second thought but we know we’re here for a good 7 years more until the last kid is done with yr 12.

YES!!!! But you know that already......

As for the NT..... You can totally do it if you wish. There are some good schools in Darwin. And cracker jobs. Housing is now cheap too.... :)

    Don't totally dismiss the idea.

Have this 'problem' too. I'm a defence force kid and moved a lot in my early childhood, after 2 years I'm ready move.

I'm currently eyeing off Melbourne. But housing is cheaper and the weather is warmer in QLD.

There's just something about integrating into a new place. I love it, it's like a whole discovery process. Melbourne would be great, but maybe harder to integrate? I've found moving to a bigger city the people are less likely to really let you in. That's the appeal of Darwin, there's lots of transient people there who are more likely to become like family than you'd find in a big city.

The only thing holding me back is the kids - they've moved schools so many times and we really feel like they need to settle, especially the older 2. But meanwhile I'm getting twitchy :) It doesn't matter how beautiful the place or the house we're in, it's just the adventure of moving!

That’s why I love my job and I haven’t left yet, maybe not the best gig for you but works for me currently. Also the new town we moved too everyone knows everyone so enjoying the relaxed country lifestyle whilst I’m home. Never going back to the burbs again.
Starting to get cold some nights but lucky I’ll be in perth/Darwin or suny coast throughout the month. :D

I'd move to Bali (if I could) but youngest just started Kindy - a looong wait.

I would too, in a heartbeat, but Hubby would struggle there.

We are talking about moving to Italy when we're older though, I'd love to live there and learn the language.

I dont get itchy feet for location but for houses. I did a lot of travel in my 20's and lived overseas (US and London) so have no real interest in living elsewhere.

But I get bored of a house after a few years. I buy it, move in, renovate it, and then think what next? Trim hedges, walk the dogs.. bored.

Thats why I wanted an acreage and bought it this time around. There is always something to do and things are never finished. Today I built an agility course in a spare clearing for horse training (he walked over the super spooky tarp today no dramas). I have a list of 342312034345 things to do and it will take years, with more added as time goes on I am sure

I had an opportunity last week for an English teaching job in Colombia. It paid a pittance, but I would have loved it I think. I enjoyed my last stay of three months in the country - but my wife is not in a position to leave her job, and I wouldn't go solo again.

Just spent two months in Italy. Love it. Asolo,Aosta Verona Genoa are my favourites.
We have stayed in the one place too long. Way too long in Sydney. Cold fractured city. So nice to move around every couple of years.
We want to rent my house out soon and just travel. Thousands of places to see. Go for it.

Maybe just move to the next suburb, so the kids can stay at school? I've moved 10 times in the last 10 years, but still not out of Sydney!

That makes no sense at all.
Now it the perfect time to move.

Provides them a great lifestyle living 100% of their time outside (when awake).
There’s also loads of relatively affordable schools for young kids. Once they hit school age it’s gets a bit toughgher - and more expensive.

Why not start learning the language now?

    Good point.

There’s generally many places where a young person can learn a second language. I’m sure that Perth has such places.

Full immersion preschool may be too much, one hour a week too little.

Or perhaps even a language learning app.

Time poor and no real incentive. Needing the language for a purpose will make me learn it so much quicker.
