I also believe growth story won't be same as Sydney and Melbourne.

It is not land locked, ppl like to live on bigger blocks, no major unit, apartment culture.

    Lot to consider!!

Steady old boy....in the parts I am looking in Brissie just about everything is under contract.

Couple of things to consider what is driving the Qld market:

    1. Chinese are there but no way in the amounts they invest in Sydney and Melbourne
    2. Part of Brissie are being fueled by local *****s...
    3. Other parts are being fueled by cashed up Mexicans..who have sold down South of the Border..

There is gold in dem hills.....yee haa.....

Obviously you don't hang around Eastwood/Hurstville/Chatswood do you? :D

Whenever I go to Eastwood for shopping, I see a lot of people selling OTPs for Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane on the street. They speak poor English but it is fine for them as all their customer speaks Mandarin ....

Some Chinese are starting to buy UNS though mainly they want to send their kids to local private schools.

Why is it the "wood" suburbs? Burwoo, Chatswoo, Eastwoo...
There is an OTP place in Burwoo that always has people in there when I go past. Sign at the front says something like "From $850k".

I think I've posted about the 'wood' thing before. I'm very curious.. is it a 'luck' thing like numerology or red-coloured thingzls or just a pure school-catchment-zone thing?

I do know that mahogany is a favoured wood on Chinese cultures. I think that is more to do with the red hues of that particular wood, however.

I wonder if that means they'll latch on to dear old WOODridge? ;)

That sounds possible. I just assumed they liked shortening it to Burwoo, like Mr Woo.

    Hmm, I prefer Underwoo!

The wood thing has nothing to do with being lucky or whatnot.

Those areas historically have had chinese migrants set up shop. Chatswood was a popular suburb for people from hongkong during the 90s when many fearing the return to Chinese rule flocked to Aus. If you wander around Eastwood you will notice the train line divides the shops into a chinese side and a korean side. In Burwood/Ashfield, the main streets near the stations are also lined with chinese shops/restaurants. Same situation with hurstville and auburn...

Its probably the convenient Grocery shopping and restaurants that attracts new migrant chinese to these suburbs.

Well Hurstville doesn't have "wood" in it!

There are plenty of "wood" suburbs which are not Chinese dominated (eg Glenwood, Huntingwood, Pagewood, Earlwood, Kingswood, Rookwood etc)

You guys will have better luck with astrology. It's purely coincidental. Nothing more.

Can I also add 'Hills' to the wood thing? You've got Sydney's bible belt Chinese-favoured Winston, Castle, and Baulkham 'Hills' suburbs, brisbane's SBH, and Melbournes Box Hill.

It's all coincidence I know, but amusing nonetheless.

Obviously numerology is serious business however. Let's see what "8th of the 8th" lucky auction day does tomorrow in Sydney ;)

I don't think anyone expects this. Question is, will it grow faster than Sydney in the next 5 years? That's the bet people are making, not that Brisbane will outperform Sydney's last 3 years.

IMHO, Sydney has more projected investment, infrastructure spent, population growth, domestic and international Migration then Brisbane.

This is my opinion, outcome could be different!

Agree on all points above. However, my biggest problem with Sydney is that my salary won't go far compared to what I can get in brisbane. If salaries in Sydney were almost double that of brisbane, like how house prices are almost double, then yes- I'd be in Sydney in 2 seconds flat.
But that's just me.. Ignoring lifestyle, family considerations etc...

As a bike rider, I seem to always end up living in or near suburbs with hills in them.

Doesn't seem to be doing much, clearance rate slightly lower albeit with a higher number of auctions. So in all, compared to last week probably not much change.

My local property manager here in SE brisbane has told me that rental/property market here is cooling.
