Hi braintrust, we are now having standard taps and wonder if its good to change them to mixer. Are they good investment in terms of future maintenance and water saving..?

On our research we found an article:
Mixer Tap vs Standard Taps | The Plumbing & Electrical Doctor

"One last tip of the day and this one you will love when your hose taps outside require replacement, please spend the extra money and get ¼ turn lever style taps, they require 0 maintenance and will last forever in a day, no more washers and hard to turn handles."

Much appreciated for any thought. Still a novice..!

    Good luck with that!

We changed to expensive 1/4 ceramic taps years ago, they lasted around 7-8 years before they started to drip. Nothing could be done except replace them! So we went back to standard taps with washers that can be changed, still going well.

Hopefully they have improved, but for us they were an expensive mistake.

Ours are over 20 years old, I have replaced the cartridges in two of them due to grit in the . No issues and won't go back.

Recently did the same in an IP.

Hi Scott, do you mean "standard taps"? or you use 1/4 ceramic taps?

I go ceramic discs always. No plumbers callouts or dripping taps.

I wonder if it's just because people tend to use cheap rubbish in my areas, but I've never liked those quarter turn taps. They don't seem to last all that much longer than taps with quality washers, and they cost a whole lot more to replace.
