    Capacity to pay

Happens with many things including government benefits

Any business can price what they want - acceptance of same is the with the user of that service.

Not dissimilar to bulk billing Gps

Common in some positcodes. Rare in others

Price is very dependent upon the address.

By the time you factor in on cost like tolls, running around to unfamiliar suppliers who are local to the job or delivery charges for regular suppliers or extra travel time, parking restrictions etc it costs more. Buying from a supplier in a more expensive suburb costs more at rent is more expensive.

Same goes for catching a cab to/from the airport to an outer suburb - it costs more.

If they figure that that you're going to be difficult then the price goes up.

@justine77 - that's right, only the rich live in good suburbs and the poor in decentralised and poorly located towns.

When i worked in the removal industry, prices would double between different suburbs, Unley Park for example would be double Aberfoyle park.

@James McIntyre so does the risk of damage increase too. If you drop a case of VB tinnies it may damage the floor but if you drop a case of vintage Krug it'll cost you big time.

Northern beaches tax is alive and well. Luckily they do not know what is happening outside the bubble and they likely will never know they are being over charged!

Even the subbies don't venture past Narrabeen Lakes bridge - all good on the Peninsula ;)

Tell them your postcode is an outer suburb postcode. that should save you a few bucks.

I'm sure people also charge more if they find you annoying.... this isn't just for tradies, but all types of jobs.

My uncle use to do that to deliberately price himself out of the job.... every now and then he would get a person that would accept. He'd chuckle and take the job.

Judging from your previous posts, i would charge you more simply due to type of questions you ask - you're more trouble than you're worth and I would need to apply a rework loading simply because you're not clear about what you want and you'll request it be redone at my expense.

Your pricing reflects the risk - straight forward with low risk of failure to pay vs fastidious client who questions everything.

Along these lines, I will often use trades based in cheaper areas for preference. For example, I always get my brisbane plumbing and electrical work done by trades based in Logan. I find they are generally cheaper with the same level of quality.

We had something like this happen when we got a quote for a house . We wanted various variations , and rather than ask for the various variations when they arose I went through the process of "sorting everything " out up front rather than getting nasty surprises on the way . I did all of this with the builders draughtsman which I paid for so the builder wasn't having to deal with the process , but the when the builder gave the quote he rang up and it was around 60 % above what he'd indicated . He never sent the written quote and never followed up with us .

He obviously decided that we ( really I mean me ... :D) would be too much trouble , but the reality is once we've worked things out things go smoothly . Ironically someone in the trade we know , left their job to work for him but left after around a year saying he was a total Prick .

Yep - it would have too much trouble to pull a shifty on you (also probably because it was beyond the scope of their knowledge and they didn't want to admit it :p)

I find the honest ones are happy to have things listed - that way all parties are happy before they start and hidden surprises are greatly minimised.
