    Hi all,

Just wonder if 6m backyard for a 340M2 floor space two story house too small.

Or I am better off to reduce floor space to 300M2 to make the yard depth to 8.5m?

    Many thanks.

    More info required...
Who's going to be living in the property, single, couple, family, retiree?
What is the house setup, 4.2.2, 3.1.1??
    Is there any balcony/alfresco space?

    Floor plan would help.

Seems like decent amount to me, pretty decent sized width.
Assuming the alfresco is next to the backyard.

We’re about to convert our back yard into a granny flat and leave us with a courtyard around 5*5 m
    .

Currently the only time we use our back yard is to mow the lawn ( pet hate ) and hang washing up .

Comes down to what you want it for. All people are different .

But it’s not a small yard by most suburban standards .

Also need to factor in what's nearby, I live across from a park and nearby to trails.

Didn’t your other post say the house was already built? Hard to reduce its size, if so!

Size all depends on what you intend to use the yard for. Do you want a vege garden and flower beds. How about a few trees?

Will the kids want somewhere to run and play?

I personally think that’s a pretty small backyard - but I love gardening.

    It is in progress,

I am thinking demolish the garage. So I can either apply a carport in the front or move the double garage to the to close to secondary st with only 1m setback without driveway. , Which will give me additional 36m2 non paved garden making the total back yard size to 120m2.

How much is soft landscaping and is the alfresco adjacent and in addition to the 6m deep backyard? It may be a bit tight if target market is large families in an upper middle class suburb where pools or just general mix of covered outdoor and soft landscaping is what's desired

Imo 300sqm can be plenty if the design is done very well, if I were you I'd try to make sure design is as smart and efficient as possible if it means getting an extra 40.odd sqm of outdoor space. Not to mention the significant cost saving in 300 VS 340sqm being built

That's half a site plan with no context, not a floor plan. hard to decipher anything

It is almost built and I cannot move the main house any more. You can see an alfresco with 4.4m*4.1m to the upper left corner. And there is detached garage to the bottom right with the driveway and the sliding gate t)at the upper right boundary to the secondary st.

The driveway takes quite a lot of space like 7m*6m. I am thinking of knocking down the garage and move it to 1m setback to the gate. So that I can have more space for swimming pool.

Without driveway and garage, I have a decent 13m*14.7m back yard.

    Any advice?
