My friend says "far in" instead of "far out".... he's been saying it for years. I've never had the heart to correct him.

    Maybe one day....

My pet hate one is when people say "should of" instead of "should have". Part of this comes down to pronunciation laziness however and is harder to detect orally, but when they write it incorrectly for some reason it really irks me!
A great book, by the way, for those grammar and punctuation aficionados out there, is the fab "Eats Shoots and Leaves" by Lynne Truss. Zero tolerance and some very good humour :D

Interesting you should say that. I should of mentioned I have history with this agent. I think the correct aphorism is: 'Fool me once, shame on ... shame on you. Fool me... You can't get fooled again!'

there used to be a lot of euphamisms for leaving (eg lets make like a tree and leave) (lets make like a ball and bounce) (lets make like a bird and get the flock out of here).
I would always deliberately mix them around.

Ive always never understood "it went down like a lead balloon". If you have ever dropped a lead balloon - I can tell you now, they go down very well.

I love Bushisms, mind you what he said was technically smart. You can tell he realized half way through that statement that if he said ''shame on me'' it would become a soundbite used against him :D

There are no upper limits to the articulate and educated tennis fans who perpetually refer to the comp as "Wimpelton".

Was that a Ninja turtle effect?
I've never understood 'they get on like a house on fire for similar reasons'. Do they or don't they? Clearly a house and a fire do well together but it's tragic and eventually burns out. o_O

How about Abbott - "no-one is a suppository of all wisdom"

    I always say 'rocket surgery.'

My other favourite (yes, I have two favourites), is: "does the pope **** in the woods?"

Agree on both points, great book and very annoying. After 15 years, I nearly have got my wife to stop saying "should of" - but I have no hope with my MIL!

I used to have a boss who we could nearly write a book about his mangling of the English language.

The two classics: "<Things> are going gunbusters" and using "pacifically" instead of "specifically" - every time. My skin would crawl, especially in client meetings!

I dislike 'focussed' instead of 'focused'. I know that both are now acceptable but, come on, the word is clearly of Latin origin.
