Mate, it's the best ice cream in Melbourne with the beach just a short walk away. If it's a bit unseasonable for the beach, the tram to South Melbourne is right there and there's always plenty of things to choose from to continue on a first date, if it's going well. Win/win.

I bought an ice-cream maker last summer. Best kitchen gadget ever.
    Some of my favourites:-
    Peppermint Crisp Ice Cream.
    Strawberry Sorbet
    Passionfruit/Orange/Lemon Sorbet.
    Cheesecake Ice Cream.

I can make them as healthy or indulgent as I like.

For a basic cheapy - Gelatissimo is great. Golden North for anything from a tub.

Personally I can't much more amazed by icecream, it seems to peak in quality at a certain point.

Cakes/tarts/complex desserts on other hand have a huge variance.

I'm lucky enough to have tried gelatos in Florence and the ones I had certainly lived up the reputation. Still, I prefer ice cream over gelato. Haven't had a Golden Gaytime in probably 10 years, after eating a lifetime's worth of them as a kid. Been keen on Maxibons lately but I chop and change all the time. Might be time to revive the Gaytime again soon. My 4 year old has taken a liking to original Cornettos in the past month or so, I may or may not have eaten his fair share of those too ;-)

It's a Cuisinart. It was on special at Myer for under $100. Pretty basic, but seems to work very well.

My folks sold Streets Ice Cream in their store for 28 years. There was once a time when it was so popular and profitable. The last 10 years or so sales dropped dramatically. They started questioning the viability of it so asked the rep for total sales for the year. They then worked out the margin. The margin figure was about $1000 for the year. The rep told them the freezers cost about $500 each in electricity to run annually. They had 2. So actual profit was $0. Suffice to say there there is now more room in the store for chairs for customers to sit on.

    I believe you 100%

We have 1 streets freezer and we know that there is no profit in it but just keep it so there is a a bit of variety in store.

It is disappointing that the icecreams have lost all there flavour though. Even the viennetta is bland and tasteless now the icecream is like fake and fluffy and it use to be really rich and creamy.

Nothing is made like it used to be :(

    That's makes me sound old!

It's sad. Such an iconic brand in this country. Now just a shadow of it's former self. By the way I forgot to mention the sizes drastically reduced over the years too. Remember how big the Magnum when it first came out? Remember the classic cup ice creams. Can't remember the name...there was a weird shaped cup sort of brown colour I think?

Such drama but it's actually really tasty stuff and well marketed. The one in Syd CBD is always busy in the evenings.

I walk by Messina everyday and always hear people (98% women) bang on about how uhhhmazing it is. And how any calories they're "saving"
