Walking might be a good place to start?

Yep. Walking is fine. I don't really count it as cardio, unless you're into olympic-style power walking.

So pleased you have spoken to your doctor.
Just make sure you follow the advice you have been given, and check back with the dr every so often to monitor your progress.

Man, your still in your 40's, single with no kids.
PPOR paid off and 4 IP's.
That is an awesome place to be.

Hit up the doc for some TRT, go get jacked then subscribe to Tinder and all those dating websites and have some fun.

Just be careful with the leap to prescribing anti depressants as a first option. There are many other options which have an evidence base.

GPs tend to over prescribe these because many of their patients want to leave with a prescription.

There has been a fair amount written about this recently. If all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail!

People often gain weight on anti depressants too.

Hey Terrychris, good on you for seeing the Dr. and opening up a bit more. So many great ideas here, but I will add one more. Aunty Angel suggests that maybe going to the pool might be more motivating than going to the gym - perhaps a few aqua classes would help you to get back to the gym stuff.

If you stay with this crowd of people, I guess some of our mojo will rub off onto you. Best wishes

What awesome responses to this post- this is what I love about this online community. It's not just about property investing and arguing the toss over politics and the latest trolls :D

@Terrychris you've already taken positive action on the path to bettering yourself so good for you! Sometimes we can get so caught up by events and feel overwhelmed/sad/down/blue for seemingly no valid reason. It has been proven time and again, however, that having energy, exercising, eating right, getting enough sleep and socialising are all helpful in combatting these feelings so I wish you all the best with your goals :)

Hey Terry I know how you feel
I've still got 80% of my life MOJO but investment MOJO has pretty much gone. Why? Because the Market I feel is at peak for the areas I know and pursue. I m very exposed at the moment, I have lots of vacancies and cash flow and buffers are gone.

In fact investment wise I'm trying to get back to neutral and have a buffer and forget about it and have sanf factor

Great posts and good on you!

Try www.meetup.com and see what groups are around you. Could be a bit daunting to begin with but when you involve yourself in something you have an interest in, I'm sure the conversation will come easily.

As @Marg4000 said, keep checking in with your doc.

There really are some great responses in this thread. I love the way that these forums are all about helping people in various ways.

I think the best piece of advice everyone gave was to go and see a GP, as you have done. My doctor always says to me if you are suffering you need to be treated. Of course, it's important to have a great GP, and change them if you don't.

If they have recommended antidepressants then go for it. Give them a fair amount of time to see if they work for you. If they don't work, then you can slowly stop taking them (but possibly try another type or increased dosage first, depending on your doc's recommendations). Antidepressants really changed my life, although you do need to find the ones that are right for you. They gave me the motivation I needed to get my life going again, including studying etc. My doc suggests I may need to keep taking them for life, which I have no problem with.

The other thing I find really helpful is just getting out there and forcing myself to do stuff, like going to the gym. Don't let it be a choice.

I also think it's really important to keep busy and keep working on exciting plans and goals (such as investing etc.) Then when you have downtime you feel like it's well deserved relaxation time, rather than that compounding effect you get from sitting around doing nothing, which makes you feel like doing even less.

It's a new year, and better start taking that first step forward. Not going to be easy, but the reason why we chose the emu and the kangaroo as our national emblem is due to the fact that they can't walk backwards.

Hey @Terrychris, how are you feeling?

Depression manifests in different ways with everyone, and I can assure you that depression doesn't just hit when there's a "reason" to be sad.

There's also a lot of people out there that are doing quite well and even their closet family and friends don't know or realise they are depressed, because they're the most outgoing person there is and they're usually met with "you're not depressed/you can't be depressed/but you're so happy".

Even if you're not depressed or if you are, look at the people around you and don't be afraid to ask for help. Do something for yourself, and it doesn't have to be a big thing. I find music helps me at times.

If you're starting medication listen to your body and look out for side affects, don't hesitate to switch if something isn't working for you and try not to stop them abruptly. You need to find something that works for you and sometimes that takes time. Lastly, if you don't feel like you have anyone to talk to, I might just be some random on the internet that's half your age, but I'm more than willing to listen as I'm quite passionate about mental health. Good luck.
