FYI, my money's where my mouth is now. I'll refrain from sharing specifics but since my last post here, I'm holding:

    TSLA - Tesla
    SCTY - Solar City
    IBB - Biotechnology ETF

I expect Tesla to trend up (in a fairly volatile fashion) between now and the year following the release of the Tesla 3. Reservations for Model 3 open at the end of the month. Will be interesting to see what happens then.

I believe Solar City will be pretty volatile but also in an upward direction though it's price is going to be heavily dependent on key events (government incentives for renewable energy, large contracts etc). Looks very cheap.

The Biotech fund is falling off a cliff in historical terms but the field will deliver world-changing breakthroughs in the coming decades. "Be greedy when others are fearful".

I think what Steven is saying is that they may not be the largest (or most relevant) search engine around.

Straight from my inbox this morning:

How I Make Money Off Of Trends... - Altucher Confidential

In the next 10 years there may be circa 7 billion (personalised) search engines all driven by something that doesn't exist yet or by a blending of Google and YouTwitFace or whatever hasn't been invented yet.

Google isn't just a search engine.

Surely this isn't in the hypothetical spirit of the game :p

What Steven is saying is that making absolute claims about the future (which by its definition cannot be known) reminds me of a hypothetical conversation between two dinosaurs 65 million years ago:

D1: "It's entirely possible we won't have a food source in a year."
D2: "Your statement is wrong. There have been plants for millions of years. They cover the entire continent. We can't possibly eat them all."

Thats what my hubby just said. I think not!

He's getting old now. I wonder how much the price will drop when he dies?

I think the clever ones on here have talked about it, and his death is probably priced in already.

His 2IC, Munger, is old too, but pretty switched on. No doubt they are training people to take the helm.

Not sure I understand the question. My view on BRK, it should be able to outperform S&P 500 by a couple percent per annum over the long term. That's it, and that's enough for me.

Short term SP volatility once Mr Buffett departs is likely but will be tempered by their on market buy back policy if price is close to 1.2x book value (not too far off at the moment).

You picked my question, which isn't really clear.

I'm not in a position to buy any, almost feel bad it's something used to consider buying. Probably not really an issue considering the quality assets backing the price I guess

They must have been having their conversation in the Amazon jungle. Then D3 came along his name was Jeff Bezos and turned all creatures with wings into delivery drones. :D

Tesla unveiled the Model 3 on Friday.

They've taken about 250,000 pre orders, each requiring a $1000USD deposit, generating a quarter of a billion cost-free capital....and about $10billion USD in future revenue.

I wish the release date was closer ! But it's great to see things moving in this direction. One can only hope other manufacturers will look into electric cars too. Telsa is also rapidly expanding their charging stations across the globe (and Australia) which is a real requirement for developing and pushing this technology forward.
