This is Brisbane. We get our rain mainly in summer, winter is usually dry and sunny. Wind in August but by then it is warming up.

However, this year winter has been wetter than usual.

walk back and forth to work (in CBD) daily 25-30 minutes. shower at work to save water.

It is good to walk better than driving the car (I only use the car once or twice a week with fuel costs at $20 a week.

What are people's opinion on getting one of those foldable scooters to quicken the commute from home to the station. You reckon people will look at me funny on a packed train?

I reckon i could cut my walk time from 13 down to 5 mins with one of those. Heading home should be ok as its relatively flat.

Whoo hoo. My Darlington unit is approx 400m from Redfern station. But if it was further, i'm sure it would be just fine too.
Pushbike... but you can use the scooter. Was kinda funny seeing a grown man riding a human powered scooter on the way to work yesterday

In reality in Perth, many people would drive that far to a train station. 15% of car trips taken in the Perth metro area are less than 1km long. I wonder how many are 400m or less?

People in Perth do it. And other passengers look at them funny. But other passengers look at a lot of people funny :p

500m is good if you're renting. You get used to the noise. I wouldn't particularly want to be in a family home right on the tracks though.

    My thinking has always been:

    up to 500m = ideal
    500m - 1km = practical & realistic
    1km - 1.5km = doable & generally affordable location
1.5km - 2km = OK sometimes but not practical daily.
over 2km = use of another transport mode....

    Cheers

12 minutes generally, but 17 minutes if it is a nice walk in Melbourne. Rain and hail are trivially solvable problems.

Many tenants have stated during inspections no more than 500-800 m in heat of summer

I'd say about 15 min max. Beyond that, can't really say 'walking distance to station'.

Yeah, it's not pleasant getting on the train all sweaty.
But depends on shade and if there are hills.

    1 km for me.

This is a really big deal in Japan - the distance from the station. All the adverts for properties have walking distance listed.

Depends on whether there are fierce dogs barking from houses and scaring you to death or if there are different people asking you for small changes en route:confused::oops::eek:

Yeah. Why are there so many people residing on street corners asking for money in the Sydney CBD?
