None!:( we upset the only taxi driver in town! Didn't want to pay the bs out of area surcharge. Young and trying to save a buck... or we just spent all our money at the pub:oops:

    What John said.
10 mins is walkable - usually equates to 900m or less.

I find this so funny! Initially my reaction was 5km or under. I’d be pretty happy to walk 5km or under to work.
    I guess I walk a lot.
A slow walking pace is 11-12min/km
A decent walking pace is 10minutes/km
A fast walker is around 8min/km
Anything quicker than that & your jogging.

So even 1.2 km at a slow walk it’s only going to take under 15minutes. Just about perfect really for getting 30minutes a day for health. The question that really should be asked is how long is the total commute to & from work. That might be the bigger issue.

We are exactly 1.2 km from train station and shops. 12-15 minutes depending on pace. I think that's on the edge of walk-ability...but thats with a pram and using backpacks to take our food shopping from Woolies.

10 min or 800m is acceptable.

However that's not the whole story. The walking environment also counts.

A direct flat 1km with a continuous footpath along a nice residential street with no busy roads to cross beats 600m where there's no or interrupted footpaths, blind corners, busy unsignalised intersections to cross and/or multiple busy intersections with infrequent walk cycles. This is very site specific but of the main capitals Brisbane is probably the most anti-pedestrian, not helped by its summer climate.
