Ok I may have gotten up too early this morning to get to work after Christmas but I thought I would share what Dr Gilda Carle (“relationship expert to the stars”) has to say about your choice of how you hang your toilet.

If you roll over… You like taking charge, crave organisation and are likely to overachieve.

If you roll under… You’re laid-back, dependable and seek relationships with strong foundations.

If you don’t care, as long as it’s there… You aim to minimise conflict, value flexibility and like putting yourself in new situations.

But could your choice tell us something about your earning power? One US survey found that 73% of people who earn under $20,000 roll under, while 60% of those who earn over $50,000 roll over. These surveys do not quite meet the standards required for a scientific psychology study – but if this column is your favourite bathroom reading it will give you something to ponder.

Over is better, less contact with wall and no need to touch wall to access. Much more hygienic.

Yes. This. Over is the only way. Plus easier to tear off, no?

I knew someone who worked in market research, and they did a survey for a TP company once.

Questions included, "Do you prefer to fold, or scrunch?"

Then your OCD levels need some work :)

What I've always wondered is if there is any correlation between folding/scrunching and under/overs...

Over, easier to get hold of, plus if there's a pattern you get to see more of it plus in hotels etc they fold it into a neat point.
I went on holiday with a couple of girlfriends, when I went to the loo the roll had been switched to the 'wrong' way, automatically changed it back three times till one friend announced she did it deliberately to be annoying, she does it at her work too. She thinks it's very amusing. I think I need a new friend.

Haha !! This very topic upset a friend of mine very much some time ago after a visitor to her home replaced the toilet roll the wrong way. A photo of the offense appeared on facebook with the question "Why would someone do this?!?!?!"

While I am an over person on the toilet roll, under doesn't worry me too much.

What is more awkward is public bathrooms with a sideways roll covered in a metal holder. It can be difficult to find the loose end, and if there's no end hanging out, I often find myself rolling the paper up rather than unrolling get it.

Psychology aside, I don't want to touch the wall while grabbing paper, hence over gives your hand the room to grab without touching the wall. I can't think of a reason why it would be under?
