On realestate and domain the search options are House, Townhouse, Villa, Unit/Apartment. I tried specifying keyword 'duplex' and got 1 result, (down from hundreds in this suburb, before the filter) which wasn't even one.

Specifically want to see duplexes so I can get an idea of whether it's worthwhile developing my block vs selling as is.

duplexes are usually under houses, you'll just have to sift through them

Look at unit blocks but specify number of bedrooms / bathrooms

Put up a sign in the bus shelter "Lost. 1 plot".

Type 'duplex' into the more 'refinements section' of realestate.com

You need to do more than that....we were looking to buy a duplex last year and we did pretty much all of the above! Other things you can do is search for "no body corporate" and look for land component as well...

    Basically it's hard work...Takes time. I couldn't find a shortcut anywhere....

Worth it though if duplexes are your thing...

No silverbullet unfortunately. Agents can advertise anyway they want and they do it

That's one way of looking at it. We found all the confusion caused a lot of duplexes to be presented to the market as Villas/townhouses.....with a bit of luck you can sometimes buy a duplex for the price of a villa.
