Hello :) Is there any way you can tell if eaves are asbestos just from their appearance? I paid for a visual asbestos inspection but they didn’t say anything about the eaves and I just noticed and have concerns about the cracked part in the pictures attached. TIA

Looking at where the cover strip once was I would say ""YES"",but that's only my opinion if you know the date it was built that would give a better idea..imho..

Yes, use a microscope or asbestos-free material is stamped "this material does bit contain asbestos".

Here is what the Government website says about asbestos

As a General Rule if your house was built:
    • before the mid-1980s it is highly likely that it has asbestos-containing products
    • between the mid-1980s and 1990 it is likely that it has asbestos containing products
    • after 1990 it is unlikely that it has asbestos-containing products.*
    * Some houses built in the 1990s and early 2000s may have still used asbestos cement materials until the total ban on any activity involving asbestos products became effective from December 2003.

Then it may not be ,but always play safe with asbestos..Plus a lot of the old pre 1975 sheets if you look carefully in the corners of each one they were stamped with the date..

Plus the old super 66 roof sheets were very low level, the wall sheets are very high content Asbestos and very dangerous..imho..

Very unlikely as we weren't importing FC from China or India at that time.

Thanks, yes definitely going to play it safe. I’ll look into having it sealed as that’s the only part that’s damaged, can’t afford to have all of the eaves replaced

Hey all, I had a sample tested just to be safe (didn’t want to be leaving windows open if there was exposed asbestos right outside) and it came back negative for asbestos, phew!

Hi, just wondering who you got to do the testing? How was your experience with them? Cost if you don't mind me asking?
