family member needs to rent a house
He's returning from overseas . He's always had high paying managerial positions and has various assets is very financially secure

Houses for rent have huge competition . He offers a few months rent in advance
What other ways can he present himself in a foolproof way to heat a lot of competition for each good house

Make sure the agent has all the details exactly and he gets along with a few agents.

As a LL, I would not be convinced about extra money up front, that would be more of a red flag than anything.

    Get some references.

If rented prior elsewhere, maybe some supporting paper work. The "trust me" I am a well paid exec would not cut it alone.

He needs a very good reference that he's clean living and pays his rent on time for starters. It also depends on what type of home he is trying to rent .

Dress well - gives the impression you have money

Bank statement - I want to know you have money

Rental reference - I want to know you will pay the money

Offer to pay more - who wouldn't want more money

Just say you will pay six-months in advance rent--that would advance one up the list..imho..

Introduce himself to a few local agents during the week. In many instances, if there are a few good applicants the landlord will ask the agent who they'd recommend. If the agent knows the potential tenant personally they'd be most likely to recommend that person. It's how I got my last two rentals

That would turn me off - makes me think that you're either desperate or earning dodgy money.

As beachgurl said, introduce yourself and be friendly. You're about to go into a 12 month relationship. It needs to fit both parties.

    Reminded me of something.
+ Don't turn up to a house inspection with a car that has a dent in every panel and leaks oil on the driveway.

Better yet, go to your nearest Aston Martin dealership and take one for a test drive - to the house inspection.

    Failing that, use Uber Black.

Aston Martin, Narhh ! Maybe Porsche or a BMW.

You just need a cleanish type of car not something that looks like it's just been driven out of a wrecking yard.
