How accurate do building permit drawings need to be?

    Hi all,

I'm currently fixing up a fire damaged house, brick veneer on a slab both of which are fine. I am however replacing all the timber elements like for like, incl whole roof and internal walls.

I need to get drawings done purely for the purpose of getting a building permit. I've made up a plan doing a measure myself to provide to the draftie and I'm wondering whether it matters if dimensions are within a +/- %5 tolerance?

The roof trussed will be measured on site, like I said drawings are purely ticking off a box in the permit. I've been quoted close to $1k for a draftee to attend site and do a full measure as opposed to just using my plan.

Some wisdom would be much appreciated.

Make sure you have internal & external dimensions as well as having checked rooms for squareness.

Are you going to use trusses or have a roofing carpenter build the roof on site? The former will only require that a notation of "engineered trusses" vs having to detail the truss design, fixings etc.
