Dear all, I left Melbourne in 2010 and worked in Hong Kong since. I have finally saved up some money and will be looking to purchase property(ies) in Australia. i will likely to work in Hong Kong but will invest in Australia lastly i want to say what a fantastic forum with lots of experts here. regards Timothy
Hi Tim, welcome. I'm a fan of HKG but on every visit, I fell sick. why? water, air or just people? Welcome again! Where do you intend to buy?
@Barny, the hk property price just got another boost these few months for no reasons (although there were very few transactions recorded this month). it was relatively quiet back in Jan this year. @Jamie, oh nice. i love the Chinese restaurant there in that hotel (even though i am not a Chinese food fan). Mongkok is one of the most crowded place in the world i bet. @larrylarry, when were you in hk? you reckon it could be the humidity? a lot of my friends cant stand the humidity in the summer. we are now in Autumn so i am enjoying the cool breeze. i haven't made up my mind - but most likely some school locations in Melb. i've been doing my research on this forum - my friends here in Australia asked me to wait for three years before i enter into the market. one of my old family houses in Glen Waverley has tripled and my friend has always used that as reference in our conversations. @Beano, there is no capital gain tax. but there is a stamp duty (around 7% ish depending on the price point). entry point is high. average price per sqaure foot is aud 2,100+. some people would spend a million to buy a small match box. also why invest in a country i don't intend to stay here forever. @LifesGood , thanks for the warm welcome. yes i too find Hong Kong very amazing. its very diverse. we have great shopping here as well as a natural view of mountains, beaches, the Harbour and the beautiful hiking trails...the beauty of living here is you can do both shopping and hiking on the same day and without a car!
I don't invest in the country i live in (as the taxes are too high) It's not the total price but the net Yield (And the potential capital gain) I have paid nz $707 per sq ft and that did not even include the building My HK unit has out performed pretty well everything else (% wise)
