I didn't like it but it rated extremely well.

The Beverly Hillbillies reinvented but with racial stereotypes.

I think it rated well because everyone watched it first time perhaps.

Arabs are fair game I suppose? Imagine if that did a show like that about Aborigines!

That show wasn't bad, some good shows and some not so good. But it wasn't like the racial stereotypes and tired plot lines of Habibs.

For me that is what it comes down to. I'm by no mean politically correct, I have only seen snippets of the show but this type of thing was cute 25 years ago when we had Acropolis now, wogs out of work etc. These days do we really need to laugh at racial stereotypes?

Maybe...it can be funny if the material was fresh...problem is they keep recycling the same stuff. That's the part that isn't funny.

It wasn't racist and it didn't make fun of Lebanese people. It made fun of rich white people. The show sets up a stereotype and then throughout the first episode works to break it down, showing the Habibs as hard a hard working, aspirational family like any other. I'm going to bet that this continues.

It may or may not have been funny or a good show. But it doesn't make fun of or belittle Arabs unless it is to serve a higher purpose of exploring and breaking down stereotypes. It seemed to me that it makes fun of other people and their reaction to an Arab family who are, despite some small cultural quirks, normal people just like the rest of the community around them.

Thee Beverly Hillbillies made fun of rich white people and it did it much better.

Rich people stereotypes and racial stereotypes, both tired themes.

What I found interesting was that they were offering something like $20 k a week ( could have been considerably more, I can't remember exactly now- I know it wasn't less) to two suitable neighboring households to move out for shooting and they couldn't find any takers . Sydney huh ( I guess they found their households just in time, or they built some pretty fancy sets :) )

OK, I best check this out, is it on a par with Housewifes of Beverly Hills....just asking, these reality shows are just fluff and mirrors, fill a void when bored, nothing too deep and meaningful....lol

It's interesting to note that producers made them a Christian Lebanese family.
