    Hello all

Hoping anyone could give some insight on how to understand this sewer diagram. I get that the thick line running across the back of the property is the main sewer line (an easement) and cannot be built over.

How about the thinner black line though? (indicated by the red arrow). From my understanding this is the private sewer pipe which connects the main sewer line to the house.

Is it fine to build over this one? And would this require concrete encasing? What are the risks?

    Thanks all,

    re: Sewer Service Diagram

the 6" (150mm) VCP (Vitrified clay pipe) is the boards asset and cannot be touched. protected by legislation. in some circumstances can be built over or adjacent too, subject to approval
3'8" etc indicates the depth (invert)

the other lines (indicated by your red arrow), are the private lines and connections. there will be a legend on the diagram explaining the abbreviations

if you are re-building these lines will possibly become either redundant / removed / or re-directed with any new design.

Is this in Sydney? If so, ask for an updated sewer diagram.

As I understand it, that part is your responsibility.

there should be a date at the bottom of the page indicating when the diagram was searched

which should be the current layout

Thanks bmc, so if we were to build over the private lines and connections, there should be no issues getting approvals I presume. Is it a requirement to concrete encase it or just a recommendation?

Up to the engineer to design the slab appropriately.

you own the private lines. you damage, you suffer the consequence
but i assume the builder/hydraulic engineer will advise

you will need the plans approved by sydney water.
search "Building Plan Approval Tap In" on their site.

they will assess if any upgrades are required with your development
