I notice the weather more since I’ve been interested in gardening. We had a super long winter, followed by a heat wave. I only took blankets off the beds in the last few days. My frangipani that felt the cold are now feeling the bloody hot. My poor old almost 18 year old doggy is so confused, cold one minute then melting. My Bris family have been complaining about the heat for two months.

I just came inside after watering the back yard. My daughters been in her room half the day. She comes in and gives me a cuddle. She says to me, “Mum, you’re hot”. I said, “thanks sweety, I wish your dad would say stuff like that to me.” She says, “no, you are temperature hot.”
    Oh whatever!

It's sooooo hot in Perth that the TPG/iiNet data centre had a meltdown yesterday & is still offline - no information or updates being provided.

I moved here mid 1999 and this is a first for me. Most Christmases are usually a very pleasant day outdoors.

    Just wondering,
Would there be much difference in temperature between say Morley (which is inland) and Spearwood / Coogee (coastal)?
Or was everywhere 43c or 44c yesterday?

Oh I thought we must have hit the cable at the border when we were digging to lay footings for the wall to keep the Mexicans out :p

Yes. In the afternoon coastal suburbs will enjoy what we call the Sea Breeze (aka Fremantle Doctor) where the wind coming over the ocean will start to cool those suburbs. It can extend quite far - as much as 10km from coast but is best felt in the 5km from coast suburbs

Yes I don’t think anywhere got much relief in this heatwave. My friend lives one suburb from the beach and she said it was 31 degrees outside Christmas Eve at 10.00pm.
It is usually cooler one -two suburbs from the coast after 3.00pm. My car aircon broke and it’s thousands to fix. I was at Carine in the car park around 3.00 one day. Nice and cool. Then drove to Darch for an appointment. It was so hot!
Also in winter though I’ve gone from Morley to Padbury on the border of Hillarys house hunting in winter. It was colder in Padbury.
I remember when I lived near the river in Ashfield we’d also get the cooling 3.00 Fremantle Doctor.

My magnolias are cooked. My Lilly Pillies are burned. My agapanthus looks like someone poured hot water all over it :(

The only thing doing well is the Frangipanis, which aren't even from here!

My magnolia in the ground is perfect, one in a pot could be toast. My monsteras turned black in front of my eyes. My gosh the frangipani’s put on a show though! This is my latest baby creation called, “Watermelon Cocktail”. It turned red in the heatwave! Same flower today. The name reflects the scent. Devine! Born in Perth from a Thailand seed.
