    @The Falcon I absolutely got your point, total return of an investment should be yield + capital growth + (future potential if any). One should focus on all angles rather than just one or the other.

    But I think what @Bran is trying to do is also to minimise the risk of his investment.
    Well, I'm sure if "minimise" is the right word to use in this context. But I'm guessing, for a lot of new investors, yield is a more predictable than capital growth which is not a "too sure" thing and it's not entirely risk prudent.

    We'll I'd say that with a short term "risk management" view then he should just pay off his mortgage. Relying on high initial yield in the form of bank stocks for predictable income is very questionable.

    Go back to 2008 (ish) and search Somersoft. I am so spewing that a) I didn't have enough free cash or equity at the time, b) didn't have the time to follow it up seriously (especially since the HO of the company I was working for at the time was in ATL), c) didn't have the cahunas to drop what cash I did have in the good ol' U S of A, and d) had a wife who at the time was ultra-conservative.
