I would have thought the reverse question would be harder to answer: Why wouldn't they listen in, when they can?

Your phone is also probably listening to you and looking at your facial expressions.

What I am surprised (not surprised) with is that people are actually willing to buy products, which are designed to listen to you constantly. Apple Home Pod, google home anyone? (I’m sure there are others)

Can’t help but feel people will regret these purchasing decisions over time.

When love making, make sure you don't shout out 'ok google....'!

I turn my phone off, and then say "ok Google, set my alarm for 3 am", so that it's only my wife's phone which gets activated.

Just make sure that their phone/device is android and yours is iPhone, not the other way round.

Ha! And people call me paranoid because I don't allow any apps access to my gps, phone or mic!:p

Never mind DSD or NSA.. Google is out there people, and it's watching you.....

It's not paranoia if they really are out to get you.. right?

Surely, you are joking. There is no way another phone will recognise your voice, unless your profile is setup on that phone.
Just saying, so your blind followers like me don't do this .. and find it not working :p

Yes it was a joke. It wouldn't be a nice thing to do - I actually set the alarms a bit later, 5am.

Reminds me of an article I saw a fortnight ago. A mum started confiscating all the kids mobile devices just before bed time so they wouldn't stay up all night. About 6 phones and tablets in all.

The kids got their revenge by setting alarms on each of the devices about 30 minutes apart, starting at 2am....
    :D

Personally I'm very much into the latest gadgets - as anyone who's seen my office will confirm. I don't see the real use for these in my own life though. My phone can do everything that I'd actually use these for (and with more control) The privacy issues are a very high price to pay for playing a song or turning the lights on.

I read this out load to a mate I'm next to because it's funny.
Then my phone vibrated, and Google said "Ok, your alarm is set for 4am". Got myself lol.

Reminds me of a podcast I listened too a year or two back where it was said an American Father repeatedly complained to a major retailer about them constantly posting maternity/baby coupons to their household in the mail in his daughters name.
She was 16 at the time.
Turned out it was big data in the store showing where her presence was in the store from her phone targetting her.
The major retailer guessed She was pregnant more than a month before Dad even knew.
