Let me put it this way. Suburbs I consider "bad" would be Broadmeadows, Craigieburn, Dandenong, Noble Park, Springvale, Maribyrnong, Footscray, etc. mainly due to high level of crime associated with those areas.

unfortunately those suburbs you mention will likely do best from an investment perspective than other ones with a 'better reputation' - due to relative affordability of houses and units, FHB stamp duty concessions, Skyrail investment etc etc etc

If you want to live in an area with a better reputation, try an original villa unit in Hughesdale, Murrumbeena or Carnegie.

I think we all get what you are wanting - there's just more "PC" (in more ways than one) ways of putting your requirements without offending anyone. :)

Having said that, I think these areas have a rapidly growing asian (Korean?) contingent.

Yes, Hughesdale, Murrumbeena and Carnegie are on my list. I do not have any problems with Korean or Chinese. The only problem is that they drive property prices up.

Yeah Ivanhoe and Ivanhoe East have always been thought of as upper middle class. Both suburbs see $4-5m+ sales from time to time. They're pretty, leafy, private school type suburbs

If you can stretch a little to say 730-750 suburbs like camberwell, Surrey Hills, Glen Iris will open up to you as well

These three suburbs are about to come alive once the overhead rail is completed, there will be a lot of development around the rail corridor. Murrumbeena and Hughesdale would be my picks over Carnegie, there's too many large unit blocks in Carnegie for my liking.

F-Hill and Burwood (depends where) can be a pain to commute to CBD
